Chapter 60: 0060 Laboratory pear_1

Lucy Wood stared at the several large boxes somewhat bewildered, as Ellen Young had been receiving these boxes from time to time these past few days.

She didn’t know what was inside, but most of them had ended up in her bedroom.

Lucy was still reluctant to go into her bedroom; wasn’t that invading someone else’s privacy?

She glanced at them and thought that it might just be some vegetables or fruits or something of the sort—it seemed likely from the labels on the boxes.

When Ellen returned, Lucy didn’t say anything and just dragged the boxes into her room.

After a while, Ellen came out with a box, unusually furrowing her brow.

Lucy quickly asked her, “What’s wrong?”

Ellen put the box on the table, “There’s a box of fruit here, let’s open it and eat. Divide them up, put two in each small bag. I’ll deliver them to the villagers.”

Lucy was stunned for a moment, thinking it was just a box of fruit.

Ellen quickly opened the box, and inside was a full box of pears—

Huh, just pears?

Lucy had thought it was something rare.

Turns out it was just pears.

However, these pears looked exceptionally plump, tender, and juicy, and the skin was translucently pale yellow, obviously not ordinary.

They seemed to be better than most of the pears available on the market.

It was unclear what effort was put into transporting them, but each pear was very well preserved, and the presentation was impeccable.

Curious, Lucy asked, “Did you buy these pears? If you wanted to eat pears, I could have bought some too. I’ve ordered lots of fruit online, and they’re still being shipped.”

Ellen replied with just a phrase, “Sent by someone else.”

It was new produce from the section of the Agricultural Department specifically responsible for fruit cultivation research.

Even if she wanted to go out and buy some, they were not available for sale.

Lucy didn’t make much of it, thinking they were sent by a city friend of Ellen’s. She washed one, cut it as Ellen had suggested, and took a bite.

Her eyes lit up.

The pear was juicy and fragrant in her mouth, with a crisp and sweet taste, and a slight chill that wasn’t too cold, making it delicious.

She couldn’t help but eat two more slices, “Where did your friend buy these? They’re really good pears. I want to buy some too. Let’s get more to keep at home.”

Ellen looked at her with an amused glance, “They grow them themselves, they don’t sell them.”

Lucy: “…”

Is that even a thing?

Though puzzled, Lucy still did as Ellen told her, packing two pears per household for the Haran Village residents. There were only about a dozen households in the village, some of them were vacant, and not within the village. After delivering the pears, about a dozen were left.

Someone had sent a dozen or so all at once.

The leftovers were all stored away by Lucy, and there was an inevitable laughter in the barrage.

[These pears look really nice. Do they grow them themselves?]

[Just a few pears, and you act like you’ve never seen the world.]

[I’m still thinking about those delivery guys from earlier.]

[There’s one box of pears, but what’s in the other two boxes? Why not show her sister’s bedroom? I want to know what’s so secretive.]

[Lucy looks so silly in front of her sister!]

[These pears, don’t they look a bit like the pearl pears that the Agricultural University’s research laboratory just posted on Twitter? I just compared them with the pictures, and they really do look similar…]

[You guys are killing me in the barrage; the lab’s products haven’t been released yet. Could an ordinary person like you get to eat them? Didn’t she say they were grown by a friend? And as for pearl pears, there are so many varieties of pears that mostly look alike, alright?]
