Chapter 318: The truth

It was easy for Alice to slip inside the castle going unnoticed by the guards who were currently busy controlling the riot outside the gates. She couldn’t help but send a mocking smile toward Kyrell and his ever-so-visible arrogance. His status as an immortal beastman and his position as a King made him think he was invincible. He acted like he couldn’t care less about the beings that he thought as beneath him.

And that worked perfectly well to Alice’s advantage. With the deliberate distraction made by her males back in the crowd, it was leisurely roaming the palace and at last reaching the King’s quarters.

Golden blonde hair sprawled across the white pillow followed by a serenely sleeping figure caught Alice’s eyes as soon as stepped inside Kyrell’s room. Her ’Mates’ were already busy taking care of the lone witch master who was guarding Lyra. To be just sure, they killed the former to clear all the evidence that might implicate Alice in the future. It was not like she cared for the outcome of her actions in the first place. After doing this....after achieving her goal, it wouldn’t matter if she lived or died.

Kyrell could torture her all he wanted but Alice would make sure to take all of it with a big smile on her face. In fact, seeing him lose himself with anger and regret after his beloved’ death would bring her nothing but satisfaction and happiness.

But to complete her dream, she first had to do something else. Turning to her mates and suitors, she parted her lips, "You can leave now" Then she shifted her attention to Lyra’s sleeping figure, "I have something important to discuss with, Her Majesty" Alice was generous enough to give the respect Lyra deserved before her death. Her animosity was towards Kyrell and Kyrell alone, Lyra had done nothing to Alice. But it didn’t matter. Loving, caring, and entering Kyrell’s wretched life in the first place was her mistake. And as a punishment for this mistake, Lyra has to die. At least she was dying a Queen. It was the last consolation Alice could grant the one she was about to kill.

Everything would go by her wishes or so she thought until she turned around to find her males still standing inside the room instead of doing as she had told.

"What are you doing?" a nerve ticked along the side of her face, she glared at the disobedient males before asking, "Didn’t you hear me? I asked you to leave"

The males fidgeted in their places. After a lot of hesitation, one of them decided to speak his mind, "I don’t think this is right, Alice. We don’t feel comfortable leaving you alone. What if you get hurt?"

Alice smirked, "It’s true that someone will indeed get hurt today but I doubt it will be me"

The males understood her remark but still insisted, "Let us do it instead of you" It didn’t matter what she wished but they would try their best to fulfill it nonetheless, "I think it is best that you leave the tribe and seek refuge somewhere safe, away from his majesty"

Alice let out a scoff, "Are you ordering me right now?"

"No, Alice" the male panicked, "We are just worried about you, don’t....."

"Enough," She said cutting in between, "I do not care what you think, I want you to leave and that is the end. Don’t test me anymore, not if you want to stay in my life in the future"

Her mates frowned and cast a pleading gaze at her to only reactive a hard glare in return. Not wanting to anger her further, they decided to retreat from the room. As for her suitors, they looked at each other uncomfortably but with Alice’s mates urging them, they had no choice but to do the same and exit the room.

Finally, alone, Alice focused her complete attention on Lyra. She slowly stepped toward the bed and leaned forward, reaching toward a spare pillow lying beside Lyra.

Taking a deep breath, she poised the pillow against Lyra’s face.

"Don’t blame me, Your Majesty. The only one to blame here is Kyrell, In fact, I’m doing you a favor by getting you away from him"

"Don’t blame me...’’ With that, she pressed the pillow on Lyra’s face and started to suffocate her.

"You must die, this is how it should be. I’m doing the right thing, Don’t blame me.....Don’t blame me.....Don’t blame me...." Her deranged chanting went on and on while at one point, even Lyra gained consciousness. She started to thrash trying to get away but due to her weakened state as well as due to the medicine she had taken not long ago, her struggle turned out futile against Alice’s assault.

Lyra fought with desperation while her tears soaked the pillow that was against her face. Nothing made sense in her current predicament other than her unborn baby. One of her hands involuntarily made its way to her stomach. A muffled scream left her mouth. Her Baby...her mates! She didn’t want to leave them. But what could she do? How could she free herself when she felt so weak? She couldn’t even use her powers lest they somehow affect the baby negatively.

She thrashed and writhed as much as she could. With no air reaching her lungs, it was becoming more and more difficult until it was not anymore. Lyra felt the pillow suddenly move away from her face while she heard some kind of commotion around her.

She breathed in greedily trying to calm herself down. When she did, her bloodshot eyes turned towards the sound beside her. There she saw two familiar figures struggling with one another. Nathan was holding Alice by her hands while the latter continued to flail in his hold.

"Let me go!" Alice screamed, "Unhand me right now!"

"You better shut up, female" Nate barked back at her, "Don’t make me kill you" Then he looked at Lyra and asked, "Are you alright, your majesty?"

Lyra absently nodded, not knowing what else to do. But right after that, she asked, "Was she the one who tried to kill me?"

"Yes," he answered truthfully, "Yes this mad female was the one that was trying to kill you"

"Why....?" Lyra asked confused. She looked at Alice, "Why would you do that?" She didn’t understand her motive. Kyrell was already Alice’s mate, she took him away from Lyra. So why was she still trying to hurt her?

Instead of Alice though, the one to answer her was Nathan. He quickly deduced what was probably going on in Lyra’s head and said, "His Majesty never mated with this female, the only one in his heart both then and now is you, Your Majesty"

Lyra’s eyes wavered while he added, "He never betrayed you in any way, Your Majesty. I know the one I serve. His Majesty has only ever loved you in his entire life"
