Chapter 279: The obligations

As Mona looked between her brother and Noah in puzzlement, her mother was kind enough to answer her query, "Both of them have the same mate, sweety" The wolf queen couldn’t help but smile looking at her daughter’s baffled face. Oh how baffled she and her mate had been when Lucas and Noah decided to court Lyra. They were initially scared of something going awry. The relationship between their son and Noah was complicated, to say the least. And as much as they wanted them to go back to how they were before Daniel’s incident, it was also okay with them if both of them stayed away as long as they didn’t hurt each other.

Now though, the Silver Wolf Queen was thankful that they got over their differences and returned to being each other’s friends and confidants. According to the queen, the best thing that happened in both of their lives was Lyra. That child saved her son in many ways just by her presence alone.

Lucas’ father the Wolf King too felt grateful that his son found a gem of a female. In the past, he could do nothing to his son other than stay silent as Princess Elena troubled him. He had felt powerless whenever his son looked at him with a pleading gaze to save him. However, there was not much he could do in this regard because he was a king first then a father. Helio was not selfish enough to put his son before their tribe’s safety. The Black Wolf tribe just like theirs was a strong opponent and there was nothing he could achieve by going against them. This was also why he didn’t make an effort to stop his son from leaving the tribe once Elena’s torment crossed the limit.

"You traitors!" Mona’s voice rang making all of those present look at her. She was glaring between Noah and Lucas with eyes dripping with displeasure as well as relief, "Why didn’t you guys inform me this sooner?" She felt betrayed. The reason Mona didn’t visit the city often was because of the animosity her brother had with Noah. For the longest time, she grew up seeing both of them friendly with each other but all of that changed overnight due to brother Daniel’s death. She could say it was the worst time their family and Noah had to go through. Right after that, she had to leave the city with her mate and hence failed to help her brother reconcile with his best friend.

"Do you know how worried I was?" Mona’s thoughts flowed out of her mouth. Only she knew how tormented she felt while thinking about the possible happenings between her brother and Noah back here in the city while she stayed in the tiger tribe.

Lucas’s eyes softened as soon as he heard his sister. She sounded so defeated while uttering those words. Noah too felt bad seeing Mona like this. He had no malice in keeping his and Lucas’ reconciliation because Noah wanted to see her surprised. Nonetheless, it was backfiring on him which made him say, "I’m sorry, Mona. I should have informed you sooner"

Mona sighed as she saw her brother coming towards her. Lucas hugged her as he said, "Forgive me, little sister. I should have known better" he really should have known better. He could see how his fallout with Noah affected his sister back then but he still kept his silence rather than letting her know of the truth.

The Wolf King and Queen too felt guilty in this situation. They never thought that keeping this secret would hurt their daughter. The Queen especially wanted to surprise her daughter but it clearly didn’t go well.

Mona on the other hand blinked back the tears gathered in his eyes before giving a hard pinch on her brother’s arm.

"Ahhhhh!" Lucas was caught off guard and yelped in pain while his sister continued to twist her fingers increasing his suffering, "I hope this is enough to teach you a lesson! Never, ever, hide things from me"

"Yes! Yes!" Lucas nodded fervently while trying to remove his sister’s hand to no avail. He could have done so easily but he didn’t want to hurt his sister accidentally. Hence all he could do was wait until her anger subsided, "I.....ah! Will never do it again"

While this was happening, Sheru who was standing beside his mate, felt proud seeing her so fierce. Back in the Tiger tribe, his Mona remained timid and reserved making him worried. She looked sad whenever her brother’s topic came up. This was the main reason he took this trip to Beast City. He could no longer see his mate in her bleak state so wanted to cheer her up at least by letting her meet her family.

Mona although not fully convinced, released her brother as he kept on begging and said, "You better keep that in mind" Then she turned her attention to Noah, and just as she was about to tell something, an unknown presence stopped her from doing so.

"Ly!"

When Mona followed her line of sight, she saw her brother rushing towards a female. Wearing what seemed like a coat made of Bearskin stood a female in front of her brother Luke. Some of her shimmering golden locks flowed out of the head covering she had put on. Mostly due to the cold season, even the female’s hands and legs were covered with thick hide showing how caring her mates were. Mona couldn’t see much but it didn’t take much in the first place to point out the beauty in front of her. Lucas’s mate was a sight to see...With a gem-like blue eye paired with an enchanting face and a captivating smile, Mona for the first time in her life felt envious of a fellow female. And as well as happy for her brother.

"Ly, why did you come out? It is so cold out here" Mona saw as her brother worriedly blew on his palm before pressing it to his mate’s cheek. That followed his mate gently nudging on his warmth while she said, "I heard of your return with your parents and wanted to give them my greeting" Then her eyes on the Wolf King and Queen, "Hello, your majesties"

"Hello, my beautiful Child!" Mona then saw her mother rushing towards her brother’s mate and hugging the latter, "How have you been?"

"I have been well, Mother," said Lyra with a soft smile on her face, "I’m so happy to have all of you here" With that she looked at the lion tribe that she had welcomed prior.

The lion queen who felt Lyra’s eyes on her smiled in return before going toward them, "I can’t wait for the banquet to begin" stated the former, "I’m sure it is going to be successful"

Lyra smiled at that but said nervously, "I hope the same, Mother"

"Don’t worry, I think it will definitely be the night to remember" This time, the wolf queen encouraged seeing how nervous Lyra looked. Organizing a banquet for the first time will always be daunting because the wolf queen had been through this during her youth. No matter how supportive her mates and tribe are, taking on a Queen’s responsibility was something else altogether. It could not be expressed in words as it was an experience like no other. Females mostly kept themselves away from work and loathed chores until they became mates with a king. A title like tribe’s Queen always came with a price.

In fact, Lyra was considered lucky in this regard. With so many Kings as her mates, she couldn’t carry out her duties but even then received no hate in return. Because, with her mates’ firm backing, no one dared to question her. It was alright for now, but the Wolf queen knew that this was not enough in the long run. Lyra’s mates could support her only to a certain degree and when it crosses, the tribesmen would start to talk. They cannot stop each and everyone from talking after all. So it was inevitable for some tribesmen and elders to show their displeasure towards Lyra. And when that happens, she has to face not one but multiple tribes’ opposition which will become quite detrimental to her.

"You did well arranging a banquet, child," said the wolf Queen letting some of her inner thoughts out. The lion Queen was quick to catch on to that because something similar was going through her head. And the only difference here was that she did not voice it out but the Wolf Queen did. The latter applauded in her heart as soon as her son came to invite them to today’s banquet. The active participation from Lyra made her quite happy. With banquets like these, the elders and tribesmen will be satiated to a certain level.

Lyra too understood what the Queens were saying. Her mates constantly kept her away from tribes’ matters to not burden her. She was very thankful for their consideration but a Queen’s duty was something she wanted to do. Not only for herself but for her mates and her children. When her babies lead the tribe in the future, Lyra wants them to do it with their heads held high.
