Chapter 150: Fighting For Our Home

"It’s like how Claud and Kangki said. Damn.." Lee says to himself seeing the monsters passing the portal.

Lee let out another piercing screech, alerting everyone to the arrival of a second wave of Monsters. Warriors unfamiliar with this monstrous tactic were stunned to see creatures pouring out of shimmering, magical portals. But everyone who knew of Astri and her spouses led every group, steadying the ranks and keeping the battle under control.

As the Monsters surged past the trenches, the real battle began. Lee and Cyprian swooped from the sky to the ground, cutting through the horde with deadly precision. Mid-combat, Lee felt a sudden presence behind him.

"Behind you, Lee." Astri’s voice warns his mind.

Reacting instantly, Lee dodged and turned to face a formidable foe. The creature had broad black and white wings, short black hair, and wore only a crude leather skirt. His dark skin contrasted sharply with his piercing yellow eyes. Lee could tell immediately that this was no ordinary Monster.

Cyprian, too, sensed danger as another flying creature, with leathery bat wings, closed in on him.

"We’ll need to use our full power to take these two down quickly." Lee said, his mind racing with strategies.

"I’ve already instructed the others to handle the other princes. Be careful." Claud says to Lee and Cyprian.

Lee and Cyprian exchanged a glance. They were the first to confront Monster Princes like Khan, but there was no fear in their eyes. They knew what they had to do.

"Don’t hold back, none of you." Claud’s mental command to all of Astri’s spouses was resolute as more Monsters poured through the portals.

Lee raised his arms, tracing a spiral in the air. A massive whirlwind formed, barreling towards his opponent. The Monster Prince dodged with incredible speed, but Lee controlled the storm like a whip, forcing it to follow.

The Prince vanished, dissipating into shadow. Lee stopped the whirlwind just in time to avoid a slash from behind. Hearing the Prince’s mocking laughter, Lee knew he needed a new plan.

"The Daughter of Nature gifted you her power. You’re proof of the greatest prize we could take here." the Monster taunted, his voice like gravel.

"Like you’d ever claim that prize, coward." Lee retorted, sweeping his arms upward.

A powerful gust of wind struck the Monster from below, forcing him to struggle for control.

Lee couldn’t afford a long battle. If they delayed, the others might struggle against stronger foes. He shot forward, aiming for the Monster’s heart. But once again, his target vanished and reappeared behind him, claws aimed at Lee’s neck.

That’s when Lee understood. The Monster was absorbing his energy, using it as a bridge to materialize at his weakest points.

"Monsters used to be more fearsome. Are they all cowards now?" Lee taunted with a smirk. Enraged, the Monster lunged at him, attacking furiously.

Lee’s wings beat powerfully, creating a shockwave that sent the Monster reeling. Predictably, the creature used Lee’s energy again, appearing behind him. This time, Lee was ready. He twisted and drove his claws into the Monster’s throat.

"Don’t mistake me for your mindless lackeys." Lee says, ripping his claws through the Monster’s neck.

One more slash, and the Prince’s head was severed, flung into the distance.

"I wish Astri had seen that!" Lee muttered proudly, ready to rejoin the battle.

"I did, my love. You were brilliant!" Astri says, making Lee happy and filled with pride.

"You did? If you hadn’t trained me to think outside the box, I’d never have finished him so quickly. I owe you a lifetime of incredible lovemaking." He teases.

Astri’s laughter was warm in his mind, making him also happy to be hearing her cute giggles.

"I’m proud of you, love. You can repay me later. Now, go help the others... What the—Lee, I need to go."

"Wait! Astri, what’s happening?!" Panic surged through him.

She didn’t reply, but his worry eased slightly as his spousal mark remained untroubled.

Meanwhile, Cyprian was struggling against the bat-winged Monster. Its rapid wingbeats created a disorienting hum, shaking the air and clouding Cyprian’s mind. Then, out of nowhere, a deafening sound shattered the vibration.

Beau had arrived under them on the ground, his powerful attack breaking the Monster’s hold over Cyprian. The bat Monster hesitated, seeing Lee’s victory over the crow Monster Prince. Realizing the tide was turning, he retreated to the other Princes.

"Some of them have the Daughter of Nature’s powers. I’m not sure how many. Granea was killed by the hawk leader." He reported to the towering figure of the new Monster King.

"Interesting..." The Monster King’s eyes gleamed with malice. "We need to draw her out, and I know just the way. You all attack. I’ll handle her."

The King began to shift, transforming into a massive black dragon. His form was different from Cyprian’s. He had a shorter, broader neck and tail, with a square snout and spiraled horns.

Cyprian soared upward, meeting the challenge. He shifted into his dragon form, long and slender compared to the Dragon Monster. They clashed high above, fire and fury lighting up the sky.

Lee morphed into his hawk form, diving to blind the Monster King, but the bat Monster raked his back, forcing him into a desperate battle in the sky too.

Below, Tyr found Wayde and Koa. They glanced skyward at the dragon duel above.

"Wayde, Koa, cover me! I’m helping Cyprian." Tyr commanded.

Koa and Wayde nodded. Koa hurled coral spears, water splashing around him in waves. Wayde’s strikes were a blur of strength and speed. Tyr, glowing with energy, waited for his moment.

Cyprian grappled with the Monster King, hurling him higher into the sky and unleashing a torrent of fire. That’s when Tyr struck, lightning arcing from his hand to the Monster King’s back.

"Yes!" Tyr roared in triumph.

"Great shot, Tyr!" Koa cheered, pride in his voice.

The Dragon King bellowed in rage. Above him, a portal opened, and a swarm of Monsters descended on Cyprian, giving him time to fly away.

Astri sighs worried, and looks at Claud and Kangki.

"The Monsters are forcing their attack on Cyprian. You two need to go help them." Astri says to them.

"Only I’ll go. Claud will stay. That Monster King might have got stronger, but not more than me." Kangki says, standing up and removing his long upper vest.

"That’s not the only problem. I asked Zin to be alert underground and not come up. He’s feeling the worm coming. You need to go, Claud." Astri reminds them of the worm.

Claud and Kangki look at each other, and then to Astri. She stands up, and then kisses both.

"Don’t worry. Nothing will happen. I need you to protect our home." She reaffirms them, and they nod.

Kangki and Claud walk out of the castle. Kangki spreads his long wings, and Claud floats and flies away with Kangki. Kangki flies to fight the dragon Monster, and Claud goes to where he’s finding Zin’s energy.

"Zin. Could you see the worm?" Claud asks in Zin’s mind.

"No, but I can feel the vibration in the earth that is not coming from the battle above." Zin answers, slithering through tunnels underground.

"It will come up at any moment. Now I can feel it. You come up. I’m here with Beau." Claud says, and lands next to Beau, whose every punch creates waves of sounds hitting several Monsters at once.

"Claud. What are you doing here? And Astri?" Beau asks.

Before Claud answers, an ice spear pins a Monster on the ground and Dieg appears in his wolf form, waiting for Claud’s answer too.

"She’s at the castle. She’s safe. Be prepared. I need you all to focus on the Monster Princes. The worm is coming and I’ll focus on him. While it’s not up, I’ll keep the Monsters away from the front gates." Claud tells them and they nod.

Claud spreads this same word to Astri’s spouses, and commands the priest guards to hold their positions, leading groups of powerless beastmen as the battle continues.

Whoever watches was awestruck, witnessing beastmen showing incredible powers they never imagined existed within their tribes. Claud’s abilities left them even more amazed because, with some flicks of his hands, he crushed dozens of Monsters as if they were nothing but paper.

Astri’s spouses fought ferociously to reach the Monster Princes and close the portals, but the relentless waves of Monsters hindered their progress.

Claud managed to clear the area around the front gates, but then he felt the earth shaking beneath his feet. Sensing imminent danger, he swiftly grabbed as many beastmen as he could with his telekinetic grip and flew to safety just as something enormous erupted from the ground.

Even though they had anticipated it, no one was prepared for the sheer size of the Monster Worm.

It was a massive, pale beige creature with thousands of long, black and white teeth encircling a gaping maw that resembled a gateway to the underworld. The creature emerged like an explosion, devouring the front gates in a single bite and crashing down with such force that it shattered part of the wall. The sight of the colossal beast sent waves of panic through the people of The United Tribes.
