Kai turned around, his eyes catching sight of a familiar figure. His brows furrowed in confusion before widening in surprise.

"Suzy?"

She smiled at him, her cheeks dusted pink as she stood beside another familiar face.

Bao.

"What are you doing here?" Kai asked, standing from the bench and continuously glancing at the two of them.

"To watch your game, of course!" Bao exclaimed.

Before Kai could ask another question, Suzy had already given him the answer.

"We came early," Suzy nonchalantly said. "Since our school has declared a special 'Kai Guo Day,' we don't have any classes today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow."

"So, if you think about it—he should have called it 'Kai Guo Days,' Bao chimed.

Kai scratched the back of his neck. What was their principal up to? However, he was more curious about the two.

"You came here…together?" he asked, his gaze bouncing between them.

Suzy hesitated for a moment, glancing at Bao, who proudly grinned.

"I was with my dad," Suzy started, only for Bao to cut in with a chuckle. "I came with them."

Kai nodded. "I see," he muttered. Then, his eyes widened once more. "Wait, what?"

Suzy's blush deepened as she fidgeted with her hands. "We're together now."

Kai was shocked once more, momentarily rendering him speechless. "Together...as in together together?"

Bao raised a brow. "Is there another kind of 'together'?"

Kai blinked at them, still processing the revelation. He finally shook his head, a grin breaking across his face. "Well, good for you two. I'm surprised but happy for you."

"A lot has happened in the time you've been away," Suzy said with a small laugh.

"I can see that," Kai replied. "This is...definitely surprising."

Suzy's blush returned, but this time, she raised her chin and crossed her arms in front of her chest, "I'm not shallow, you know. I don't just look at looks."

"Sure, sure," Kai teased, smirking.

"Wait, what does that mean?" Bao muttered, but he was ignored by the two.

Suzy shook her head, though a smile tugged at her lips. "It's true."

Bao slid his arm around Suzy's shoulders, not minding what Suzy had said about him. His smug expression earned an eye roll from Kai.

"Anyway, we have to go," Suzy said, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "We're exploring the city with my dad."

Kai nodded. "Have fun. Your dad doesn't hate me now, right?"

Suzy shook her head. "Well, he tells the younger students that he was one of your greatest mentors."

Kai shook his head. Oh, Mr. Dao. He was the one who gave Kai such a hard time when he first transmigrated into this body!

"Sure, sure, I'll give him that," Kai muttered. "Well, have fun."

Bao gave him a mock salute before leading Suzy away.

"We'll see you tomorrow!" Bao called, waving at him for one last time.

"Looking forward to it," he softly said.

Kai stood there, watching the two of them interact as they left. Despite their differences—Bao being a little shorter than Suzy—they looked like a great match.

Their chemistry was undeniable, and Kai couldn't help but feel a warm sense of pride for his friends.

However, it seemed like the universe wanted to leave him a reminder of his current status.

Turning around, Kai nearly bumped into another couple—Kimmy and Jian.

Kimmy's sulking expression was unmistakable; her lips pressed into a pout as Jian leaned closer, trying to win her over with exaggerated gestures and a teasing grin.

"Oh, come on, Kimmy," Jian pleaded, clasping her hand. "Don't be mad."

Kimmy huffed but didn't pull away, allowing Jian to lace his fingers with hers.

Kai winced, feeling secondhand embarrassment. "Do you two have to do this here?"

Kimmy's eyes widened as she looked at Kai. Then, her cheeks reddened. "Kai, it's been a while," she said, reaching out to shake his hand.

However, Jian quickly pulled her back and covered her eyes with his hand.

"Jian!" she exclaimed, but Jian continued holding onto her.

"Really?" Kai asked, raising one eyebrow.

Jian smirked, glancing at Kai. "Jealous much?"

"Not even a little," Kai replied, stepping around them.

"Sure you're not," Jian called after him, trying to one-up him.

Kai shook his head, muttering under his breath. "Couples everywhere..."

He turned another corner and found Dong walking hand in hand with his wife, their small child toddling along beside them. The sight should have been heartwarming—and it was. However, this was the third couple he had seen in the span of minutes!

Dong spotted him and waved. "Kai! Good to see you, man."

Kai mustered a smile, nodding back. "You too."

As Dong's wife scooped up their child, Kai turned away, hoping to escape the parade of happy couples.

But fate wasn't done with him yet.

Rounding another corner, Kai's eyes landed on Muyang, walking arm in arm with his long-time girlfriend. The two of them were laughing about something, oblivious to the world around them.

Kai froze. "You've got to be kidding me."

It felt like the universe was mocking him.

Everywhere he turned, there were couples everywhere! What kind of test was he undergoing?

A sigh escaped him as he made his way back to the hotel. His mind wandered to Lina. He hadn't seen her in what felt like forever, and he couldn't deny the ache in his chest whenever he thought about her.

Before he could step inside, a shout cut through the air.

"Kai! Aren't you going to help me?"

The familiar voice made him spin around, his heart skipping a beat.

Then, there she was.

Lina.

She stood there for a moment, her luggage in one hand with the other waving at him. Kai blinked a couple of times to make sure he wasn't hallucinating.

Then, she began jogging toward him, her smile wide and radiant. The sight of her made the rest of the world fade away.

Before he could fully comprehend what was happening, she closed the distance between them and placed a light kiss on his lips.

"How are you?" she asked in a soft voice.
