Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Seeking Food_1

“A generator in the supermarket!”

Li Ming was pleasantly surprised. He took a careful look; it was brand new. His eyes sparkled with excitement.

He picked up the discarded user manual next to him. The first page introduced different types of generators.

Diesel generator set for home use 220v single phase 3/5/6/8 kw/ 10KW three-phase silent…

To be honest, Li Ming didn’t fully understand, but he did figure out its usage and application. What excited him was that this generator was not only quiet but also powerful enough to simultaneously operate a refrigerator, air conditioner, washing machine, hairdryer, and light bulbs.

“That’ll be enough!”

Li Ming beamed. He immediately took out his new treasure, placed it carefully on his electric tricycle, unloaded some food, and then drove his fully charged tricycle towards his apartment building, stopping outside the first floor.

Using his significant strength, he managed to carry the generator and hoist it up to the fifth floor. As he reached the front door, Zhang Yuan excitedly opened it for him.

Li Ming confidently placed the generator in the living room, then gestured to Zhang Yuan with a wave of his hand, “Come, help me bring up the rest, I can’t carry all of them myself.”

“Sure, I’ll go with you!”

Zhang Yuan nodded with excitement. She had been watching from her window when Li Ming valiantly killed the zombies. Seeing him return with so many crucial existence-related items made her very happy. If he asked her to help carry stuff, of course, she would gladly help.

Li Ming didn’t hesitate, leading her back down to the third floor. The sight of the zombies turned Zhang Yuan’s face pale, but Li Ming managed to cheer her up. Only after he had hidden the bodies out of sight did she regain her composure, following him closely downstairs.

Once they reached the bottom, he let her carry some of the lighter items. He took everything else, completely loaded up, and took it upstairs himself.

This time the tricycle had the generator on it; there weren’t many other items. Li Ming and Zhang Yuan managed to carry everything in one trip.

After making one trip and climbing five floors, Zhang Yuan felt exhausted, but she insisted on continuing. Li Ming didn’t stop her; he took her down to the small supermarket on his tricycle.

Zhang Yuan was extremely excited to see all of these goods. This time, there was no fear of zombies; the open environment relieved some of the dread from their hearts.

She helped Li Ming busy with loading up what he had gathered earlier, took some additional items that women usually need, and then made four or five trips to carry everything back home.

Finally, Li Ming made one more solo trip to bring back remaining goods at the third floor, also carrying a load of mineral water, completely stuffing his bedroom.

Having found the key to the supermarket door in the pocket of a zombified employee, Li Ming pocketed it, laughed to himself, and came back to lock the supermarket door.

To avoid any shameless acts, such as someone else finding and locking the supermarket then keeping the key to prevent others from getting in, he thought he’d better stay in control and be that shameless person himself.

The supermarket only had one small ventilation window; he didn’t believe anyone could squeeze in through it.

This was the apocalypse, and if there were resources that could be controlled, they should be under his control!

Moreover, the zombies here were his kills.

Of course, if anyone truly managed to crawl in through that small hole in the smooth wall, he would let them be…

Then he found a key that belonged to a spacious off-road vehicle; this immediately seized his interest. With an internal laugh, he parked the vehicle in front of the residential building, checked that there was still plenty of fuel, then satisfied, headed back home with the key.

Effortlessly climbing up the stairwell to the fifth floor, Li Ming was about to re- enter his home when he noticed an extra person in the corridor on his floor.

A woman was there now.

Li Ming scrutinized the woman in front of him. Noticing the half-opened door behind her, he realized that she was a neighbor living on the same floor.

Securing his ever-ready spear, Li Ming looked the woman over. She wore a black shirt and pink trousers. Her blouse was seemingly about to burst open, and below was her slender waist and a well-rounded bottom.

Coupled with her tall frame, she gave off a much mature aura than Zhang Yuan.

He recognized the woman. Living on the same floor, he would often bump into her.

Whether it was in the elevator or in the corridor, they would frequently run into each other. He knew she was a married woman, though very tempting, with fair skin, and seemed to belong to a wealthy family. He was poor and so never let his thoughts wander.

But now…

The woman felt a little uneasy under Li Ming’s gaze. She bit her lip, remembering her goal. Her voice was weak, coming out as a plea to the man in front of her, “Could I borrow some food from you? It’s been more than ten days since the apocalypse. There’s nothing left at home. My child is only five years old; she can’t withstand the hunger. I’m truly out of options. Please lend me some food.”

Her voice was filled with pleading. It began steady, but only a few sentences in, she started to lose her composure, looking at the fit Li Ming with hope.

She remembered this neighbor. She came out now as she noticed him moving supplies in and out of the corridor.

Noticing his physique, she was somewhat taken aback; he had become so robust in such a short time.

“We’re neighbors, I am more than willing to lend you some. Otherwise, my conscience wouldn’t let me sleep.”

Li Ming, looking at the woman before him, spoke with a smile. As he talked, he told her to wait there. The woman hastily nodded, continually praising him for being a good man and expressing her gratitude nonstop.

Li Ming laughed lightly. He went home and scooped up three bowls of rice, three bowls of flour, grabbed five potatoes, a handful of sugar, and ignoring the excitedly inventorying Zhang Yuan, he took these items out the door and found the woman.

“You can have these for now. As your neighbor, this support I’m providing is free. If you need anything else in the future, feel free to reach out to me, we can always work something out.”

Li Ming handed the items to the woman, speaking with a smile while his eyes seemed to fleetingly appraise her figure.

She clearly understood Li Ming’s insinuations. She pursed her lips, accepted the food and thanked Li Ming. She clutched her fists, and cautiously asked, “Could you come over again in an hour? I’ll be waiting for you here.”

An hour?

Li Ming raised his eyebrows and neither confirmed nor denied, but just nodded his head. The woman burst into a brilliant smile and thanked him again before she took her things and retreated to her room.

Li Ming watched as she closed the door, giving a small laugh. A strange light flashed in his eyes, then he returned to his room and glanced into Zhang Yuan’s room. The door was tightly closed.

He let out a soft sigh, went to his room, and unbuckled the long sword from his waist. He placed it alongside the spear near the head of the bed.

He then looked at Zhang Yuan, who was still busy checking the supplies in the house, and smiled. He got a towel, went to the bathroom, wiped his sweat lightly, and re-emerged.

“Your husband stays at home all day not going out, huh? He doesn’t even react to all this noise.” Coming up behind Zhang Yuan, who was bent over sorting supplies, Li Ming gave her a playful pat and laughed.

“He’s too engrossed in his game to care about anything else. The door is closed. He’s not interested in anything else.”

Zhang Yuan wrinkled her nose dismissively.

“He certainly knows how to enjoy himself, whiling away his time playing games every day. Must be nice.”

A smile tugged at the corner of Li Ming’s mouth as he watched Zhang Yuan bustling about the room, tallying the inventory. A peculiar light flickered in his eyes.

“As long as I’ve got you, who cares how he is?”

Dismissing his words, Zhang Yuan said, and Li Ming responded with a smirk, “I’m going to take a shower in a bit, I’m soaked in sweat. In the morning, you can cook whatever you like.”

“Okay.”

There were plenty of vegetables from the supermarket. Only a certain amount could fit in the refrigerator. If the rest were not consumed quickly they could spoil, so Li Ming was quite nonchalant with his suggestion.

As Li Ming walked off, Zhang Yuan, thinking that he was going out for some exercise, didn’t pay much attention and continued to sort the items.

The room full of commodities gave Zhang Yuan a comforting sense of security.

“For lunch, I’ll stir-fry some chicken legs and potato pieces.”

Zhang Yuan took out a basin of chicken legs that could not fit in the refrigerator, grabbed a few potatoes and thought gleefully. Then she glanced at the remaining things that hadn’t been tidied up and hurriedly resumed her preparations.

Though she was initially resistant to what Li Ming was doing, after a few times, she now felt extremely satisfied.

……

“Phew~”

Li Ming walked into the living room, took a sip of water, and let out a sigh of comfort. He then looked outside the door, images of his previous encounter with that neighbor flickering into his mind, producing an inexplicable feeling in his eyes.

Maybe because of the enhancements to his body,

It was exactly when Zhang Yuan was really busy, that this woman came to him.

The brief conversation in the hallway earlier was actually quite revealing, and of course, Li Ming was contented with the arrangement.

He had bumped into this woman before when she was heading out and they often shared the elevator ride. However, just like with Zhang Yuan before, they didn’t know much about each other.

He only knew that she was attractive with a great figure. She lived here with her young daughter and mother, but Li Ming, who was relatively new to the place, hadn’t seen her husband yet.

But now, that didn’t really matter.

Li Ming buckled the sword back to his waist, sat in the living room, and waited a while. Through the open door, he saw the woman walking out of her home, immediately putting down his glass of water and standing up.
