Ye Xuan sighed when thought of how the place he had thought of as a second home was now a corrupted place of fighting for power and wealth.

However, since he couldn’t change the people there, he would create a new order that would not tolerate such behavior.

"Let’s go meet those professors I told you about. And since we plan to start the sect you mentioned, we should look for more supplies. We might have too many people in need of resources later and while we can grow food and produce water, the other resources we have saved might not be enough.

This is also a good time to test the people in our surroundings and find out if they are worthy of being members of our sect." Ye Xuan said as he got up and pulled his girlfriend along.

They went down to the eighteenth floor and rang the doorbell. The soldiers lived on the seventeenth floor and acted as a protective barrier for the professors.

Since the professors had no combat power, staying on the lower floor might cause trouble as some people could come to disturb them for supplies.

Even though there was an anti-theft security door at the end of the stairs to the seventeenth floor, it wasn’t a complete guarantee.

Now that the elevator was no longer working, it was a good thing that the only way to access the upper floors was through the stairs.

They rang the doorbell three times before they heard movement inside. It was almost five in the afternoon, what could those three old men be doing to take so long to open the door?

Song Ting was the one who opened the door and was surprised to find Ye Xuan standing there with a little girl.

"Come in, come in." He invited them inside enthusiastically.

He had thought that it was the other boys downstairs bringing more supplies to them.

After experiencing hunger in those days they were locked up in the research institute without a way to look for food, to the point of preparing to die, the three of them never thought they would experience the abundance of food and water again.

Their diet now was almost the same as before the apocalypse began. They had three full meals a day, snacks during breaks, and even beverages including wine if they wanted to drink.

And even though the vegetables and fruits provided were frozen, they still didn’t lack any. They could eat meat with every meal and there was no rationing. One could eat until they were full without worry.

After witnessing people die of starvation, they felt that they were living an extravagant life, but reality had taught them that only the capable could survive.

That’s why they only rested when sleeping and have been working nonstop to find out a way to make a vaccine for the zombie virus.

After walking into the living room, the place was a mess with papers everywhere. The other two old men were engrossed in reading something. When they looked up and saw who the visitors were, they stood up abruptly.

Chu Miao almost got scared by their sudden reaction and worried that they might break a bone or two with such fast movement.

She would never understand that these people treated Ye Xuan like their parents. If they weren’t afraid of scaring him off, they would have worshipped him like a deity.

They were grateful that he had rescued them and provided them with a safe place to conduct their research. Moreover, they were also given any resources they asked for and Ye Xuan was not stingy with anything.

How could they not want to worship such a ’god’?

"You can sit down. No need to be so tense. I brought someone to see you today." Ye Xuan said as he led Chu Miao to the only sofa without an array of papers to sit down, then he began his introductions.

"This is Chu Miao, the granddaughter of General Chu, you must have heard of him before." The old men all nodded their heads.

They had indeed heard of General Chu, a general who although came from a family of high ranking officials, used his own merits to climb up to the position of a general before retiring.

He was highly respected, thus, even after retirement, he was still held in high regard. They had not expected to meet his granddaughter in person. She must also be a great person to have such a grandfather and to be associated with someone like Ye Xuan.

"She is also my girlfriend and the leader of our team." Ye Xuan added.

His statement not only surprised the three elderly men, but also Chu Miao herself. She had not expected him to introduce her as the leader in front of others.

She knew that men were chauvinistic in nature and wouldn’t want to be dominated by women, but it looked like Ye Xuan didn’t care about taking the back seat in their growing team and becoming her support.

This was not something that could be achieved by someone just because they loved the other party. The psychological burden of being the shadow was not very attractive to many men. But Ye Xuan didn’t seem to mind at all.

Chu Miao looked at him and a sweet smile broke on her face. Feeling her gaze, Ye Xuan lowered his eyes and locked on to a pair of bright and clear dark eyes that shone brighter than the sun in the sky.

Even though it was raining and gloomy, he no longer felt that gloom. He felt as if his world had turned brighter from those eyes and the radiant smile on that beautiful face.

If it weren’t for the people next to them, he would have kissed her senselessly. Those plump lips were practically inviting him to kiss them and for a moment, he forgot about the zombies, the floods, the corruption; the entire apocalypse.
