Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Contacting Ye Xuan

As such, he banished all distracting thoughts and entered deep meditation activating his cultivation technique and running the spiritual energy around his meridians in repeated cycles.

After the first cycle, the movement of the spiritual energy became smoother and he spent another four hours repeating the same action over and over again.

By the time all the spiritual energy was refined and stored in his dantian, his meridians were at least one degree tougher, and the spiritual energy purer.

That’s right, while tempering his meridians, he had discovered that using the spiritual energy that was already in the body for tempering without drawing any more from outside purified it.

This added to his strength and stabilized his cultivation faster.

Once he had finished his seclusion session, he got up and stretched his slightly stiff muscles before going to the bathroom to shower and shave before calling Chu Miao.

However, as soon as he entered the bathroom he realized that something was different; there was no power in the bathroom.

Even though it was still during the day, the bathroom was always lit because there was not enough natural lighting.

He clicked the switch near the door but nothing happened. He didn’t really need the light, but he was just used to it.

Since there wasn’t power, he didn’t bother and took a cold shower then headed to the closet to change.

He picked up his phone after he was cleaned up but found it off. It looked like he had run out of battery. He didn’t mind and went back to his bedroom to grab a power bank and plugged his phone before going to turn on the already set up generator.

Soon, his apartment was lit up again. He knew that he had been cultivating for at least five days. He broke through to the Qi refinement first level the first day then took four days to break through to the second level.

He also remembered that the building had already begun flooding before he went into seclusion. He wondered what had happened the last few days.

Since there was no power, he assumed that the power rationing rule was still in enforcement. What he didn’t know was that this was the third day in complete darkness.

Only those who had generators still had power while everyone else was in the dark. Many mobile phones had become decorations because they couldn’t be charged.

Even those with power banks had drained them. The internet was still working, but it was useless for many since they couldn’t power the devices that use it.

Of course, Ye Xuan was still unaware of all this. He charged his phone without any burden then powered it on.

Several messages chimed as soon as the phone was on. Most of them were from his brothers, some from Professor Song Ting, a few from an unknown number.

He replied to those sent by his brothers and Professor Ting and ignored the ones from the unknown number. If the owner was genuinely seeking him, they would call again.

He was just about to put his phone down when it rang. It was that unknown number again.

Without hesitation, he picked up the call and put the phone next to his ear, "Ye Xuan speaking." He said with a stern and serious voice. It was completely different from when he talks to Chu Miao.

The gentle tone he uses is only reserved for her and anyone else, especially strangers who were greeted with a stern voice.

"Hello Major Ye, my name is Qi Long, the captain of the elite team in the second military base. I would like to talk to you about something important."

It turned out that after Qi Long woke up from his long awaited sleep, he contacted a few acquaintances to look for Ye Xuan’s phone number and was lucky to get it. However, when he first called, his call went straight to voicemail. He had thought that the number was no longer in use, but just as he was about to give up, he got a message indicating that the phone had been turned on.

This was his only chance and he cherished it very much. Even though before he had been thinking about resigning from the military, his conviction wasn’t very strong, but after hearing the conversation of the higher-ups when he went to report, his heart had turned completely cold.

His brothers had died on a pointless mission, but the leaders only saw their deaths as an inconvenience to their plans of seizing power.

He had thought that his hatred for the zombies who killed his brothers was strong, but compared to the disappointment he felt towards his leaders, it was nothing.

"Captain Qi, how can I help you?" Ye Xuan’s voice became less stern when he realized that he was talking to a fellow soldier.

"Major Ye, it’s like this...." Qi Long explained everything that had happened since the onset of the apocalypse.

He didn’t leave any detail out and told him everything including the conversation between the higher-ups the previous day.

He also explained his desire to join his team together with his brothers and a few other soldiers who couldn’t stand what the military had become.

Ye Xuan listened patiently to everything Qi Long said and couldn’t help but feel anger rising in his heart. Soldiers take an oath to serve the country and its people and they are aware of the risks involved.

They know when going out on missions that it might be the last. But to have them sacrificed like sacrificial lambs for personal gain was something he couldn’t tolerate.

So, even though he knew that he should first consult the Chu family before accepting new members, he decided to ask Qi Long to come over first. It would take them a few days to come back to City A. By that time, he would have talked to the Chu family and his brothers.

He was certain that with Grandpa Chu’s as a soldier, he wouldn’t mind having those who come join them.
