By the fourth day, water was already at their waist. They had no choice but to flee. Nobody was willing to lend a helping hand, and eventually, they had ended up in this building.

They didn’t even know how lucky they were to have avoided zombies and come here.

Qi Long, feeling responsible as a soldier, couldn’t leave them there and asked them to follow them. He had some doubts about their story since he didn’t believe that they could avoid zombies so completely and enter the building, but end up surrounded.

Something was fishy, but he wasn’t interested in knowing.

"Let’s get out of here before those monsters come back." Qi Long said to the family and started walking out of the room.

Even though the building was huge and it wasn’t a residential building but resembled an office building more, the family had chosen to live in one room together.

It’s described as resembling an office building because even though it was designed as such, it didn’t look like an office occupied the area. But all this had nothing to do with him.

Getting to the door, Qi Long realized that the family had not followed him. They were still sitting without moving.

"Let’s go. If those zombies come back, we won’t be able to leave." He could only urge the five people to move quickly.

He was starting to regret coming here. What were these people doing? Or were they all deaf?

After looking at Qi Long for a while, the family got up and collected their belongings before following him to the truck.

They all sat at the back of one truck, and Qi Long didn’t bother asking them to split. This family was weird. Apart from the girl who told him that they were a family and how they ended up in that building, the others hadn’t said a word.

He didn’t know why that was so, but he had already decided that he would leave them in the next place they found a residential building.

Luckily, they didn’t even take a day to find a place with more people and some vacant houses belonging to people who had either died of heat or starved to death.

They settled the family in one house, gave them some supplies, and left.

Even the other soldiers felt goosebumps rise on their skin when they thought about that family. They could tell that they were not deaf and dumb, so why did they not speak?

But with zombies from a distance smelling their abundant vitality from afar, even those chasing after Yi Wen turned around.

Yi Wen knew that his comrades were ready to leave and turned back, running at full speed towards them.

The others had already gotten into the trucks and started moving. They knew that he would catch up soon.

It took the team another two days to cover the remaining thirty miles. A distance that could have been covered in less than ten minutes before.

This was because they had encountered many groups of zombies for some unknown reason. It was as if they had zombie-attracting powder on them.

Of course, there was no such thing as zombie attracting powder, but it was weird. Luckily for them, after a day and a half, the hordes of zombies diminished.

Nevertheless, because of how much they had to fight, drain their strength completely, and recover, they had improved so fast that it was unbelievable.

In just two days, they were about to advance to level two. Moreover, they had collected a lot of crystal cores, which could allow them to cultivate for a while.

They knew that the discharge procedures would take a few days from application to approval. Since they were coming back from a mission and their team had suffered heavy losses, even if just for appearances, the higher-ups would not send them out for another mission immediately.

This will give them time to rest and also allow the discharge to be processed. They, however, weren’t going to relax. They had to cultivate harder and break through to level two as soon as possible to improve their strength before leaving.

After hiding their truck at the parking lot of an abandoned building that many people wouldn’t bother looking at, the team got into the other truck with fewer supplies and headed towards the barracks.

Because soldiers came out to clear zombies every other day around the base, they didn’t face any obstacles from the fourth mile mark.

The truck was stopped two miles away from the base, just as Qi Long had anticipated; there were scouts there.

After revealing his identity, he was allowed to drive in.

This was still the old military base where he had been proud to serve as a serviceman to his country. But now, driving in like he had done so many times. It felt different.
