Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 136: The Ancestors’ Sacrifices
Chapter 136: Chapter 136: The Ancestors’ Sacrifices
The fog that had spread the zombie virus but also restored some spiritual energy into the modern world was also mentioned. This showed how accurate the Chu family ancestors were when they predicted the future.
"This kind of precise prediction must not have been easy. Our ancestors must have paid a heavy price for them to be prepared so well." Chu Miao pointed out as she put the book down and picked another.
"What do you mean?" Chu Hao asked as she sensed the heaviness in his sister’s tone when she said that.
"I once asked grandfather why the priestess who had told that prophecy was so frail as if she was sick. At the time I was still young and didn’t know much.
Grandfather told me that it was against the rules to peek at heavenly secrets and every time someone did it, they would be punished by the heavens.
Since she didn’t investigate in detail every time she prophesied something, her punishment was light, and only her health was affected.
I asked Grandfather what would happen if she looked at the details, and he said the price would be her lifespan.
So, for the Chu family ancestors to have such intimate details about the apocalypse, many people must have sacrificed their lifespan so that we could survive." Chu Miao explained what she knew to her brother.
"Being willing to make such sacrifices for descendants you will never meet. The beliefs of ancient people must have been rooted too deep.
In the current world, even a mother would abandon their own child, let alone people who will only live thousands of years in the future." Chu Hao said with admiration.
"People in ancient times valued bloodline more than anything else. So, to preserve the Chu family bloodline, they would do anything. Even sacrificed their own lives." Chu Miao said.
She had seen such cases before where elders would use their lives to protect the younger generation. She didn’t think it was right since everyone’s lives mattered.
Nonetheless, she appreciated such sacrifices because it was because of them that they were safe at that moment with a safe haven they could use for retreat if things became too much to handle.
After putting away all the books and scrolls into her spare space ring, Chu Miao turned around and headed toward the other side of the room.
On the left side stood a statue of a middle-aged man. His features could not be clearly seen and if the person carving it had no intention of revealing the real appearance of the man.
The man had long hair tied on top of his head with a jade hairpin. He had one hand placed on the hilt of a sword hanging on their waist and the other was holding a scroll.
Even though it was a statue, apart from the face, everything else was detailed and clear.
Chu Miao couldn’t understand what the meaning of that statue was. Moreover, the statue was the size of a full-grown man; it didn’t make sense that it was not the first thing she saw when she walked into the cave.
It was not shining with neon lights and such, but it was too obvious to miss. So, was the statue there when they came in?
She asked her brother the same question and just like her, he had not noticed it when he first walked into the cave.
"Does that mean it appeared while we were inside? But when did it appear and what triggered its appearance?" Chu Miao asked as she got closer to examine the statue.
"I have no idea. But there must be a reason for that. Or maybe it was here the whole time and we just couldn’t see it." Chu Hao said as he looked closely at the statue and noticed that it didn’t have any signs of being moved.
"There was probably a formation here blocking our sight and for some reason, it was lifted." Chu Miao said because she thought that the cave’s owner must have used some illusion to make it look like that place was an empty wall.
But the question was, why would the owner go to such lengths just to hide a statue? It didn’t look valuable and even the material used to be varve it looked like normal stone.
So, what was the owner trying to hide?
No matter how much she thought about it, Chu Miao couldn’t think of anything. In the end, she chose to let it be.
However, before walking away, she thought that this was probably the statue of one of the Chu family ancestors who made the space ring and created the small world inside that provided them with numerous resources and protection.
Thinking of this, she grabbed her brother’s hand and came back to stand in front of the statue.
"We should pay our respect to our ancestors." She said as she slowly lowered her body and knelt down.
Chu Hao didn’t ask any questions and simply followed suit and knelt on the ground.
The siblings proceeded to kowtow three times towards the statue to show their respect and sincerity.
After the third kowtow, they suddenly heard something heavy, like a huge boulder, being moved. They turned towards the sound of the moving stone and realized that the stone bed had moved towards the wall and a staircase going underground had appeared in its original position.
This was something that neither Chu Miao nor Chu Hao had expected.
"Where did those stairs come from, and how can the bed move on its own?" This time Chu Hao was really shaken.
Even though he knew that there were many mechanisms and machines in the modern world that could move on their own using modern technology, he couldn’t understand how something from thousands of years ago had the same concept.
"Let’s go take a look. Since it opened, then it should be guiding us to go deeper." Chu Miao said as she walked towards the stairwell.
