Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train-Chapter 202: Expulsion
Rain Town in the afternoon welcomed another heavy downpour.
The sky turned dark and gloomy, and the air carried a stifling atmosphere. Outside the cinema on Central Street, many vehicles were parked.
Some of these vehicles belonged to the Titan Convoy, still stained with dried blood. Others were ones Ding Qing had collected and repaired from around the town. These had no real defensive capability, and barely enough fuel to go a hundred or two kilometers.
In the underground parking lot, over a hundred people nervously stepped out under the aim of guns, lugging their belongings. The crowd was full of unease and confusion, with children crying and women sobbing here and there.
The moment they learned the town was on the brink of destruction, everyone’s first reaction was fear and uncertainty. No one had any clue what awaited them tomorrow.
In the rain, some families began loading their luggage into the cars. A few people took charge of organizing the survivor vehicle assignments. Everyone moved in silence, while members of the Infinite Train stood on the street, holding guns and watching it all unfold.
Countless targeting beams swept over to Lin Xian. Some people began to realize—this was the man about to confront that monster from the chemical plant head-on. The same man who was pushing them out of this warped but safe haven.
The looks they cast at Lin Xian were layered with meaning. He said nothing, quietly watching them pack nervously, car by car driving away.
He knew most of them probably wouldn’t live to see tomorrow. But if the Mark theory was confirmed, and if they succeeded in taking down the monster, maybe they’d live a few days longer.
Once everyone was gone, Lin Xian didn’t waste any more time. He told the team to board the train. He and KIKI stayed behind in town to handle the detonation.
Considering all the aspects of the Mark, Lin Xian had Lü Chang bring the Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum in that big box. He wanted to see whether, after taking down the monster, it could absorb the Black Smoke.
Over on the Infinite Train, everyone except Lin Xian and KIKI had already returned to their cars. Because the battlefield was too brutal, Shu Qin only allowed those with strong mental resilience to handle cleanup. The rest followed Chen Sixuan in sorting and logging the items into the storage boxes.
The entire Rain Town platform was shrouded in a chill of death. With the rain pouring down, the flowing water was almost completely red.
"12 Level-1 Eerie Blood Crystals, 3 Level-2s, 4 rocket launchers, and two 12.7mm vehicle-mounted autocannons. The Titan Convoy really had some firepower."
Inside the carriage, Shu Qin stared at the confiscated records, inwardly shocked.
"If it weren’t for our heavy weapons, they probably wouldn’t have gone down that fast." Chen Sixuan added.
"Wouldn’t have mattered."
Lu Xingchen’s face was dark. "These people had already lost their fighting spirit. Just stray dogs now, turned into Demonic Hounds. No guts left to fight. Just sneaky scumbag work at best."
Chen Sixuan fell silent at that. Self-preservation was basic human instinct. Everyone on the Infinite Train, including herself, had been forced into survival on the brink. After fleeing through so many nights, it was inevitable that people would change once they found a place that could shield them from the darkness.
"Alright."
Chen Sixuan looked out the window and reminded, "Everyone get ready. We need to support Lin Xian and the others."
Then she turned to Daluo. "Daluo, take a few people and do some emergency repairs on the track up ahead. I checked—it’s not too damaged. No need to wait for Lin Xian to return. We may have to evacuate at any time."
"Got it, sis."
Daluo accepted the order solemnly. Carriage No. 11 was stocked with prefabricated track steel and all kinds of lifting and welding tools—something Lin Xian had prepared long ago. As long as the terrain wasn’t completely destroyed, even without Lin Xian or KIKI, the others could handle emergency repairs.
Chen Sixuan was meticulous and thorough. In Lin Xian’s absence—and after entering combat herself—that soft and restrained demeanor had slowly given way to a composed and chilling calm. Everyone started to respect her even more.
Under Chen Sixuan’s command, the crew across the Infinite Train began preparing the evacuation in an orderly fashion.
Rain Town, Clock Tower.
Lin Xian held a remote detonator cobbled together from a simple communicator, looking down the silent streets of the town. Behind some shattered windows, he could vaguely see eerie human silhouettes.
Those hiding within the buildings, their eyes seemed to sense the invisible threat, quietly gazing in Lin Xian’s direction.
KIKI floated behind him, arms crossed. "I knew it! You ran back in there earlier because you were eyeing that mechanical suspension arm, huh? Planning to install it on the train?"
"Not a bad idea."

Lin Xian replied, "There’s still a lot of potential in my Mechanical Ability. Like you said—if this works out, maybe we really will head to Star City and have a talk with the Federal Government."
KIKI raised an eyebrow. "The radio said the old Federal Government already renamed it to Dawn City, and merged the original defense force with some private security companies to form a full Federal Army. They’re no joke. We’ll have to sneak in quietly—can’t just roll up in the Infinite Train with the Gemini 11R Nuclear Electric Locomotive."
"If nothing unexpected happens, their power and influence will keep growing," Lin Xian said.
"You think a lot of survivors will join them?"
Lin Xian nodded, then took a deep breath. "If the Dark Mark theory holds up, there’ll definitely be more people heading to Dawn City. Then a whole new debate could break out among survivors—whether to flee or hold their ground..."
"That kind of situation would be extremely bad for the Phoenix."
KIKI furrowed her brows, falling silent for a moment, then spoke uneasily.
"Right... If people are afraid of being marked in the dark, the Dawn City underground project might gain a better reputation. That would definitely shake things up within the constantly migrating Phoenix."
"Yeah. But it won’t happen overnight. Humanity still can’t survive stably in the Polar Night. That unknown creature in Underground City No. 9—still a mystery. Run or hold, each has its own logic. Most people will lean toward escaping the darkness. But solving the Dark Mark... that’s what really matters."
"So... do we still need to share this Dark Mark situation with the Phoenix?" KIKI’s eyes showed a bit of concern.
"Yes."
Lin Xian’s expression was resolute. He didn’t hesitate. "Faction debates are our own business as humans. But when it comes to the invasion of darkness, we all have the same enemy. If we can prove this theory using the Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum today, we might save countless fleeing survivors—and even change how people try to escape. Compared to the life and death of millions, faction disputes aren’t worth a damn."
KIKI nodded with admiration. "Not bad. Big-picture thinking. But those Descent folks probably won’t agree. They treat the monsters like gods."
"Is that so?"
Lin Xian turned his targeting beam toward the chemical plant. "Then today, let’s bleed their so-called gods dry!"
"Lin Xian, everything’s deployed on our side. We’re ready to pull out anytime. Be careful."
Chen Sixuan’s voice came through the communicator. Lin Xian checked the time: 2:40 p.m.
"Everyone, brace for shock impact. Detonating now!"
