Boom—Dong, Dong, Dong!

The water tank crashed to the ground like a giant metal drum, producing a deafening roar that instantly startled every corpse crow on the Infinite Train. In an instant, an overwhelming chorus of ear-piercing caws erupted.

The swarm of black corpse crows, like a tidal wave, frantically surged toward the rolling metal tank. Meanwhile, the tank tumbled down the slope, its loud rumbling echoing through the air.

At this moment, Lin Xian and the others suddenly realized that the entire platform's roof and the passenger terminal above them were densely packed with these black corpse crows, blotting out the sky as they came swooping down.

“So… there were this many of them above us the whole time…” KIKI muttered, feeling a chill run down her spine.

Lin Xian wasted no time and immediately started operating the train. “Little girl, switch the track for me. We're heading into the maintenance depot to rescue Shu Qin and the others.”

“Got it.”

Woooo—

The Infinite Train roared to life once more. Taking advantage of the distraction, it sped towards the maintenance warehouse while the endless swarm of corpse crows was fixated on the noise.

Inside the warehouse, Shu Qin's convoy spotted the approaching train and immediately rushed to push open the massive workshop doors, clearing a path for Infinite Train to enter.

“Hurry! Get inside, quick!”

Shu Qin stood at the warehouse entrance, waving her hand frantically while speaking into her walkie-talkie.

Clang! Clang! Bang…

As soon as the Infinite Train made it inside, Shu Qin’s men swiftly shut the sliding doors behind it.

Boom!

The heavy doors slammed shut, the sound echoing through the vast maintenance depot.

“You guys okay?”

Seeing that the Infinite Train had safely arrived, Shu Qin finally breathed a sigh of relief. As the train doors opened, Lin Xian and the others stepped down, their flashlights sweeping over the scene.

Shu Qin's convoy was still intact—all seven vehicles were there—but their exteriors were covered in black bloodstains and scattered corpse crow feathers. It was clear that they had barely survived an onslaught the previous night.

Lin Xian glanced around the large train hoisting workshop—its arched metal ceiling and full-metal structure seemed sturdy enough. Most of Shu Qin’s thirty-some survivors were still huddled inside their vehicles, too exhausted or traumatized to move.

“What happened? Why are you hiding here?” Lin Xian asked.

Shu Qin looked drained. “It’s a long story… Last night, we made it down from the High-Altitude Corridor and planned to stay outside the city, find a safe place to rest, and wait for you. But as soon as we left Jiazhou Spaceport, those monstrous birds attacked. It was chaos. Many convoys crashed in the panic, and most people didn’t even have time to stop before they were forced to flee.

“These things are fast… I don’t even know how many people managed to escape.”

She pointed toward the distance. “We only survived because we stumbled upon this place… and because the commotion from Silver Star and Dragon Mountain One drew most of the birds away. Otherwise, we’d be dead.”

Lin Xian frowned. “So, they attack at night too?”

“They don’t care if it’s day or night.”

A terrified young man from Shu Qin’s convoy walked over, his face pale. “They’re everywhere up there. We saw people get eaten alive in seconds—nothing left but bones. It’s terrifying…”

“They eat people?” KIKI sucked in a sharp breath. “No wonder we haven’t seen a single zombie around—they’ve all been devoured!”

“That’s probably right.”

Ding Junyi, wearing disposable gloves, carefully picked up a small, wriggling black worm from one of the convoy’s shattered windshields using tweezers. She examined it with a calm expression. “This thing… eats inorganic material, too.”

She pointed at the barely visible scratch on the windshield. Originally, she had prepared a test tube, but after seeing that, she opted for a reinforced metal container instead. Sealing the black worm inside, she immediately took it back to the train for further analysis.

“That powerful?” Chen Sixuan was stunned. “Wait… then those black worms on the corpse crows’ faces—were they trying to devour our windows?”

“It’s possible.”

Lin Xian’s gaze fell on the bullet-riddled and scarred vehicles of Shu Qin’s convoy. His expression darkened. “But from the looks of it, these corpse crows rely on sound, not sight. If that’s the case… we might have a way to handle them.”

He turned toward KIKI. The girl’s unique ability had already proven to be an invaluable asset—saving them from a lot of unnecessary trouble.

“So, what’s our plan now?”

“Oh, right.” Shu Qin suddenly turned around and gestured toward the far end of the maintenance depot. “We found something here. Not sure if it’s useful to you guys.”

Lin Xian followed her gaze and saw two trains parked on the repair tracks—one city passenger train and one freight train. Both had their locomotives lifted onto hoists for maintenance, but they didn’t look too old.

Whenever Lin Xian reached a major station, he always checked for usable train carriages or locomotives. Earlier, he had scanned the passenger terminal and sidetracks, but all he found were rusted-out oil tankers and decommissioned freight trains, overgrown with weeds, resembling a train graveyard.

Most of those scrapped trains were useless. But here, Shu Qin had actually found some decent ones.

The freight train wasn’t the main focus—the city passenger train was the real gem. It still had a clean, white exterior, a five-carriage setup, and relatively modern amenities inside.

“Wow! The carriages look amazing!” Shasha exclaimed.

“This is a premium-class passenger train. High-end features, but…” Chen Sixuan turned to Lin Xian.

Lin Xian chuckled. “You’re about to say it’s too fragile, right?”

Shu Qin’s gaze flickered as she looked at him. “Captain Lin, my convoy and I have talked it over… If possible, we’d like to join your train.”

Lin Xian saw the hopeful and expectant gazes directed at him from all directions. Some people stood outside, while others peeked from inside their vehicles.

From the campfire at Qu Guan, to the battle at Mount Daluo, and the journey into Yubei City, Shu Qin’s Bigfoot Convoy had been through hell. They were down to just a few vehicles and thirty-some people. If they hadn’t formed an alliance with Xu Jin’s convoy and followed Infinite Train into Jiazhou Spaceport, they wouldn’t have made it this far.

Xu Jin’s convoy still had over a hundred survivors. Old Mo’s group was a family alliance, so they weren’t in as dire need of protection. But Shu Qin’s convoy… they needed a stronghold.

Lin Xian nodded without hesitation. “I said before—if we survive the journey across Dazhu Plateau, we’ll merge into a single Fortress Train and survive together. I wasn’t joking.”

Hearing this, Chen Sixuan, KIKI, and the others visibly brightened, their eyes filled with excitement.

“For real?”

Shu Qin stared at Lin Xian in shock before grinning with excitement. “Thank you, Captain Lin!”

“Seriously?! That’s awesome!”

Shu Qin’s convoy cheered in excitement.

“Thank you so much!”

“We have new comrades now!!”

Hope flickered in Shu Qin’s eyes. She turned to her people and declared, “From today onward, the Bigfoot Convoy officially joins the Infinite Convoy. Every one of us, including myself, will follow Captain Lin’s command!”

“YES!”

“No problem!”

“Captain Lin, we’re all at your command!”
