Chapter 426 - 380: Zaboru Investment Idea

Monday, 24 November 1992

While Zaboru allowed himself some breathing room after the explosive success of November's game launches, his mind never fully rested. Today, he wasn't scribbling down game mechanics or refining a new narrative—he was thinking far beyond games. Investment. Not the kind that gave short-term returns, but the sort that built empires.

He sat back in his chair, legs up, arms folded, his ZGB powered off on his desk beside a neatly folded newspaper. He let out a thoughtful sigh.

"In my previous world, NVIDIA gets founded in '93... If the timeline still holds, it's close. Maybe earlier or later, depending on how things shifted in this version of the world," he mused aloud. "Either way, I have to be ready. No way I'm missing that train."

He jotted the name down in a black notebook he reserved specifically for world-altering opportunities. NVIDIA—future graphics giant. Then, he flipped to a page where two other names had already been written: AMD and Intel.

"Those two... they battled for decades. Tech innovation, patent wars, CPU supremacy. I need to check if AMD has gone public yet, or if it's still under heavy internal development. Intel's strong, but I know where AMD's going to spike. If I time it right..." he tapped his pen against the paper. "Maybe Ryan or James at Emerald Wings have insight into the current state of Silicon Valley. I'll reach out when I'm in the States next month."

But tech wasn't the only sector in his sights. Zaboru flipped open an older newspaper—today's edition of Tokyo's major financial press—and smiled.

"Nokia... They just dropped the 1011, their first GSM phone," he muttered. "Expensive, bulky, but a start. In ten years they're everywhere. Unless they crash. Which they did. Hard. Maybe if I can influence their direction subtly, avoid the trap of hubris... they could thrive instead of falling off a cliff."

He shook his head slightly. "I'll do more research. Maybe there's another upstart out there I can back instead—someone hungry, flexible. The ones who don't yet know they're going to change the world."

He opened another folder—this one for long-term strategic planning at ZAGE. The company was already making incredible revenue from ZGB and ZEPS Consoles and games . But Zaboru saw what others couldn't.

"Games alone won't sustain what I want to build. There'll come a point where console sales slow, game prices spike, and players get frustrated. I want to keep our games affordable. But that means having other revenue streams. Stable, outside of gaming."

He thought of Nintendo in his previous life—how they once made playing cards. Sony, once a radio manufacturer. Companies evolved. ZAGE would too. But not by accident.

There was also a note scrawled across one margin: ".com—this whole internet sector is going to explode soon. It'll be a bubble for sure, but if timed right, I could reap massive returns before it bursts."

He pulled out a separate sheet labeled "ZAGE Diversification Roadmap." It had several categories: tech, infrastructure, education, and—yes—even sports betting. He wasn't above placing a few careful bets on outcomes he already knew from memory.

Zaboru chuckled and flipped through another sports newspaper, which highlighted the usual headlines: Magic Johnson still dominating on the Lakers' court, and Italy recently being crowned World Cup champions. He raised an eyebrow and muttered under his breath, "This world's entertainment timeline really regressed by ten years, huh? In my original life, Italy should've won the World Cup in 1982—not 1992. And there wasn't even a World Cup in 1992... the next one was scheduled for '94."

He paused at the mention of Magic Johnson. "And Magic... in late 1991 he should've already been diagnosed with HIV and stepped away from the game, only to return years later in defiance of every expectation."

He shook his head with a knowing grin. "So sports are under the same temporal echo too. That's something. If I play this carefully, I can make small, well-timed bets on upcoming sports outcomes. Nothing major—just enough to pad the coffers. I know how risky betting is, but a few safe wins here and there wouldn't hurt." fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Still, he knew gambling wouldn't be a primary source of growth. It was a pocket-money tactic. But it highlighted the core of his strategy: using knowledge as leverage, planting seeds in the right places.

He flipped to a chart of ZAGE's current finances. Even with ongoing arcade expansion, hardware manufacturing partnerships, magazine publishing, and licensing deals, they were still in the green. Very green.

"But soon, we'll need more. More offices. More distribution. More talent. When that skyscraper is finished in five years, I want us to fill it with the brightest minds in this country. No... the world."

The ZAGE Tower, currently under construction, would be a symbol of what he envisioned: a creative utopia for gaming innovation. A space not just for developers but for dreamers. Programmers, artists, storytellers.

And to fuel that vision, he would need funding. Not from shady investors, not from short-sighted acquisitions. From his own foresight.

He put his pen down and leaned back once more. "I need to be careful. Strategic. No sudden moves. I invest not just to grow wealth—but to ensure ZAGE becomes an immortal brand. A company that doesn't sell out. That never compromises what games can be."

Zaboru also contemplated the idea of building a full-fledged ZAGE theme park—an entertainment empire akin to Disneyland. He envisioned it as a wonderland where gaming merged with real-world experiences: life-sized pixel palaces, immersive VR zones, and live-action performances based on ZAGE franchises. But he knew such an ambitious project would require astronomical funding, intricate logistics, and a decade-long blueprint to even begin feasibility studies. Still, he scribbled it down in his notebook with a circle around it: "ZAGE Land—someday."

He stared at the ceiling. "First step: reach out to Emerald Wings. Get intel on the U.S. tech scene. Then research Nokia's board. Maybe I'll call Shinsuke-san and ... see if he can find the right Japanese partner for early mobile ventures."

He smiled. The pieces were lining up. One decision at a time.

Zaboru wasn't just building a game company. He is fulfilling his dream
