Chapter 391 - 347: Zanichi Renkonan
Zanichi Renkonan, born on December 4, 1951, was not just the Chief Technology Officer of ZAGE—he was also the father of its young and brilliant CEO, Zaboru Renkonan. Though his life seemed to have reached a point of stability and success, his path had been anything but easy.
In his youth, Zanichi had been a dreamer. Naturally gifted with an intuitive understanding of electronics, he could sense the workings of machines almost as if they spoke to him. He could easily understand complex technical terms and systems with a glance, as if machinery revealed its secrets to him willingly. His talents extended far beyond electronics—he excelled naturally in math, chemistry, physics, and other sciences, making him a true prodigy in the technical arts. However, during his childhood, technology hadn't yet blossomed the way it would in later years. Despite his innate ability with machines, what truly captured his heart back then was manga. Drawing, storytelling—creating entire worlds with nothing but ink and imagination—this was his passion.
Yet destiny had other plans.
The truth was, Zanichi had been born into a powerful and influential family: the Zagashira family, whose business ties in the automotive industry spread into major companies like Honda, Suzuki, and Toyota. His real name was Zanichi Zagashira. The Zagashira family was enormous. Zanichi had six siblings, not to mention a vast web of cousins, uncles, and aunts, making the Zagashira name one of the most influential and sprawling family networks in Japan. As for Zanichi He was the firstborn son of Zenzou Zagashira, the rigid and authoritative patriarch of the family, and Zenzou had only one vision for his eldest son—to groom him to take over the Zagashira empire.
Dreams of becoming a mangaka? Childish nonsense, according to Zenzou.
Throughout his upbringing, Zanichi was forced into a strict regimen: business, economics, management. Creativity was stifled. Every ambition outside the family business was crushed beneath the weight of duty and expectation. By the time he graduated high school, the tension between father and son had reached its peak.
At the time when Zanichi just graduated from High School and When Zanichi announced that he planned to debut as a professional mangaka—that he already had a manuscript ready for publication—Zenzou exploded with rage. His siblings, perhaps seeing a chance to secure their own positions in the family hierarchy, encouraged Zenzou to disown him. And so, at just eighteen years old, Zanichi was cast out of his home, cut off from his inheritance, and left homeless.
For three long weeks, Zanichi wandered the streets of Tokyo with nothing but the clothes on his back and the stubborn fire of his dreams. Eventually, starving and exhausted, he stumbled into a small, family-owned izakaya—the Renkonan family's establishment.
Drawn by the smell of freshly cooked food, he sat on the curb outside, too proud to beg. But Keiko Renkonan, the daughter of the family, noticed him and, without a second thought, brought him a warm meal with a bright smile, a smile that stole young Zanichi's heart. After that It became a routine. Day after day, Keiko and her mother, Sakura Renkonan, would bring him food though Zanichi, reluctant to accept it, said he can only do so for survival.
Renkonan Izakaya is known for their kindness. They not just sell food for money, they sell cheaply to those who can't afford expensive good food.
One day, when their radio broke, Keiko joked that maybe the "mystery boy" could fix it. To everyone's astonishment, Zanichi was able to fix the radio. Fascinated, Keiko and her mother Sakura Renkonan brought him more broken appliances—a fridge, another radio, an old toaster. With some spare parts, Zanichi repaired them all.
Zanichi is really happy doing so because he is able to repay their kindness.
Recognizing his talent, Sakura offered him a job as the izakaya's live-in handyman and janitor. Zanichi will get a small salary and he can live at Izakaya when at night Zanichi gratefully accepts.
Months later, Keiko's father, Rui Renkonan, who worked at a small electronics firm as a higher up, heard about the young man with magic hands. As a test, he brought home a prototype microwave with persistent technical issues he didn't expect much and thought it was just a small prank to this kind young man. But he was really surprised when he showed the Microwave design. In no time, Zanichi diagnosed and solved the problem, offering improvements that impressed even experienced engineers. Rui was so impressed that he offered Zanichi an apprenticeship at his company.
Thus began Zanichi's second life.
He put aside his dreams of being a mangaka, focusing instead on mastering electronics. His reputation grew, and eventually, Rui recommended him to Sonaya, the biggest electronics company in Japan, also a global powerhouse. Over the years, Zanichi built an impeccable career.
He wanted to become Keiko's lover, utterly captivated by her kindness, beauty, and unwavering support. It was because of her that he made the painful decision to set aside his dreams of becoming a mangaka, choosing instead to focus on becoming a strong and dependable man worthy of standing by her side.
Then as time went on He and Keiko grew close, and eventually, love blossomed. When they married, Zanichi chose to forsake the Zagashira name, adopting "Renkonan" as his new family name—a tribute to the family that had saved him when his own had abandoned him.
His old family, the Zagashiras, never attended his wedding. They never even sent a letter. But by then, Zanichi no longer cared.
Now, in October 1992, Zanichi sat at his desk at ZAGE headquarters, sipping his coffee and reviewing the latest tweaks to his new game project, Lunar Knight.
Across the room, he watched with pride as his son—no, his boss—Zaboru Renkonan, animatedly discussed a design with a group of engineers. Zaboru, not even in his twenties, had created a gaming empire from scratch. He had revived a dying industry. He was chasing his dreams without compromise.
Zanichi chuckled to himself. "You have no idea how proud I am, son," he thought.

Seeing Zaboru's passion reignited Zanichi's own long-buried dreams. Perhaps, once Lunar Knight was completed and ZAGE was stable enough, he could finally, finally pick up a pen again and draw.
Maybe not for fame. Maybe not even for money. Just for the sheer joy of it—to fulfill a dream he once thought lost forever.
But for now, he had another mission.
He had joined ZAGE as CTO not just to help Zaboru build his dream, but to shield him. Zanichi had insisted on first building his own reputation at Sonaya before joining ZAGE. He didn't want jealous employees whispering about nepotism, questioning whether the boss's father deserved his position. That's why he decided to put everything he had to create Sonaya, now the MGB console and its first 4 game titles.
He had earned their respect through skill, dedication, and hard work. And he intended to keep earning it. Also the presence of Yamaguchi Couple Sayuri and Shinsuke helped Zanichi's reputation soar.
"I'll clear every path I can for you, Zaboru," Zanichi thought, smiling warmly. "So you can go even further than I ever could."
Taking a long sip of his coffee, he turned back to his work, ready to perfect Lunar Knight — and ready, someday, to chase his old dream again, in the quiet hours, just for himself.
Also Zaboru didn`t know that his father from this world has completely different back stories and past from his previous world!.
To be continued.
