Chapter 75 - Getting Stronger

After Darian said what he intended to do, Niara nodded, and Rhea tried to explain the issues.

"Even if the Risen Lords really don't attack, and the stronger ones just move to defend the galaxy, we don't actually know where that artifact will take us. Not to mention, the Risen are connected to each other and their creators. We'll be surrounded by enemies, and if we're discovered, they won't give us a chance to escape."

Darian nodded. "Don't worry about that. We can move completely outside their senses — as long as there isn't anyone ridiculously powerful nearby, of course."

Rhea looked confused, but the little slug turned to Niara, closing his eyes as he focused.

Suddenly... Niara felt her Bloodline stir inside her body. Her eyes turned pitch black. Her green scales appeared all over her body on their own — and then started to darken, turning completely black.

Because her Bloodline was weakened at the moment, this wasn't even a third of what she had become before. But in a flash, she turned into a fully black Dragoness, radiating a corrupted aura almost identical to the Risen's.

Rhea felt it and was stunned.

Darian opened his eyes. "Done. I've got control now. If she doesn't need to fight, this power can stay in her body for a long time. If no Risen sees her directly, at most they'll just feel like another one of them is nearby. As for me, I can use the laws of the environment to move us really fast. If we're careful, it's gonna be pretty hard for us to get spotted."

This time, it was Niara who looked stunned. Darian now had solid knowledge and a refined control over his abilities. Before, he used to do everything almost like he was fumbling in the dark. Now, he actually seemed way more reliable.

At the same time, that weight came back onto her shoulders. She needed to give her all not to drag him down. He even had other allies besides her...

"Partner," Darian cut through her thoughts, feeling what she was feeling, "your Bloodline is special, like I've told you many times. And your mutation also seems perfect for using with my power... it's like you can absorb other powers that are close to yours..."

Niara let out a heavy snort. "Yeah, I can absorb any Divine Dragon Bloodline into mine and get stronger... I don't know how your power is anything like mine, but it sure feels that way."

"Great. Then there's no one else like you. You're my secret weapon. If everything goes to hell, you can use all my power directly. My other allies have limits, but your Bloodline is like a bottomless pit — I can pour in everything I've got, endlessly."

Darian finished, then saw her gaze tremble a little. She didn't say anything, but he felt her confidence return.

After that, she sighed, and Darian felt the scales beneath him disappear. She only removed them from the spot where he was lying, letting him sink back into her clothes.

She laughed to herself at his reaction, testing her control over this new power. Because of the contract connection — now that her Bloodline was full of that dark power — she could even sense the karma in the environment. With a bit of focus, she could even feel Ametheos fighting the Risen somewhere far away.

Rhea, who had been deep in thought the whole time, finally spoke up with a bit of excitement:

"If that's the case... and everyone's going to attack together... I think the assault starts in three days. The new Spiritual Guardians are still being tested, remember? Three days is the most common maximum time for those who passed the test to arrive. They need the Summoners' support to create their partners' physical forms and receive instructions. That first month is super important for their future. Besides, waiting those extra days helps everyone get fully prepared."

Darian agreed. "No reason to go in too early. Only Mannaz are guarding the galaxy, right? That's perfect. We won't get discovered if we act fast."

Both of them looked seriously at the slug. Doing this was risky — the chance of a more powerful Risen showing up, like what had just happened, and him not being able to handle it, wasn't small.

But... Darian clearly wasn't doing this for personal gain. He was just trying to help the locals as much as he could.

Rhea nodded, understanding a bit more about this new partner. In the end, she'd have to take risks, too, if she wanted to get anywhere.

Darian made a gesture, focusing. Instantly, countless black lines rushed toward him, and he absorbed them all in seconds.

"Niara, you need to rest a bit to recover your Bloodline. Rhea, I'll give you more power. Help Ametheos wipe out the Risen on this planet fast."

Darian ordered, and both nodded. Rhea received white power from him, fusing it into her spiritual body. She spread her wings and flew toward where Ametheos was.

The other two moved into a cave. Niara sat inside and closed her eyes, falling into a deep sleep, feeling his presence close — which gave her complete peace.

Darian focused on the planet's battle, sensing the changes in Ametheos. If he killed all the Risen on the planet, maybe he could improve his mark by 5%. Luckily, they had a lot of places to visit now — this was a perfect chance to grow.

A day later, Niara opened her eyes, already much better. She hadn't burned through her entire Bloodline during the fight; it had just been worn down from pushing her limits for too long. With just that rest, she was already back to 80%.

By now, the entire planet had been cleared.

Besides the random Risen invasions happening inside the galaxy, they also had a set attack pattern on the galaxy's edges. They came in waves, in one area at a time.

Celestia Academy had split the defensive lines into twelve sections. It worked like a circular clock, and section number 6 was the far south — where they were — and it had more Risen and stronger ones than usual, for some unknown reason.

After a wave of enemies showed up and got wiped out, it could take days for another one to reach that same region. And when they hit a different area, patrol inscriptions would send alerts to the defenders.

Niara had a badge she'd been given, and the inscriptions on it showed where attacks were happening in real time.

Not just that — there were also fast travel methods available for defenders to use to help out in other areas. Any defender could use them, as long as they weren't under attack.

Niara explained everything, and the two of them came up with a plan. At that exact moment, seven other regions were under attack, but things were under control. Several Mannaz were fighting and dying to keep it that way.

Darian nodded and gathered a massive amount of karma in seconds. After that, his spirits returned to him, and Niara received more black power now that her Bloodline was more stable.

They moved to the next battlefield — region number 9.

As soon as they arrived, Darian empowered his allies. "Go!"

The two of them shot straight into the middle of the Risen army. It was like releasing elephants into an anthill. Darian wasn't trying to be subtle — that would've cost Mannaz lives. At the same time, if they were brutal and fast enough at taking out the leaders, they could prevent anyone from using another artifact.

Niara flapped her wings in the sky and flew straight at the Risen Leaders. Since there was no shortage of black power, she was going all in this time. Darian used his control over the planet's laws to support her, making them way too fast to track.

Six hours later...

With the four of them working together, the whole planet was cleared.

Darian could feel Ametheos growing stronger, but what caught his attention the most was how happy Rhea felt — it actually made him excited too.

Saving all those Mannaz gave her pure karma and boosted her brand's power. She seemed to be evolving slightly faster than Ametheos. That made him understand. Generating good Karma through actions was what could help her evolve.

"Awesome, both of you are getting stronger now," Darian murmured, then felt a bit of feminine resentment nearby. "Ah, and you're also getting way better at using this new power with your Bloodline. Your energy drain dropped a lot — nice job."

She didn't react, but Darian could clearly tell she liked the praise. The two of them were finally starting to understand each other. For this partnership to work smoothly, they needed to get along.

They rushed off to another region — number 4. Five hours later...

Ametheos: 15%...

Rhea: 17%...

They didn't stop to rest and went straight to the next one... and then the next...

Halfway through the last day, two more attacks started. Luckily, Niara had picked up how to use the black power so fast that Darian actually felt a little jealous. Not a single Risen Leader managed to do anything before being taken down.

At first, it took them six hours to clean a region. Then it dropped to five. But pretty quickly, they were clearing everything in one or two hours. It was like stomping ants. The only ones who put up a fight were the leaders — who always acted alone — and even then, Niara would take them down in minutes.

By the end of the third day, they'd cleared all seven regions — plus the two new ones that had popped up. The gains were massive. As for their allies...

Ametheos: 100%...

Rhea: 100%...
