Alpha's mate is a male?!?-Chapter 133: What If..!?
Chapter 133: What If..!?
The next day, sleep doesn’t release Jun and Ace so easily. Even after morning arrives, they remain dead asleep, oblivious to the noise and activity happening outside.
They are tangled together, completely unaware of anything beyond their sleep.
All the exhaustion, sleepless nights, and stress have drained them, pulling them into an endless slumber.
At some point, still half-asleep, Ace is certain he can smell Kieran’s scent around him. It becomes so overwhelming that it jerks him awake, startling Jun.
"What is it?" Jun asks sleepily.
Ace doesn’t answer. Instead, he looks around as if searching for something, and just as expected, his eyes land directly on Kieran.
Kieran is sitting on Jun’s chair, playing with a pen between his fingers but his eyes glued on both Jun and Ace.
He rotates the chair slightly, not a full turn, just a small movement.
His expression is completely unreadable.
Before Ace and Jun can even pull away from each other, the door opens, and Rey walks in. His steps falter at the doorway as he stares at the two of them.
They both look at him at the same time. For some reason, Jun feels a mix of emotions seeing Rey here. What is he doing here? Did he finally miss me?! And now he wants to talk?! he wonders.
But Kieran snaps their attention back when he says something none of them expect.
"The last time I remember, I was the one holding you like that in my arms." He says, refering to Ace.
His voice is low, as if he can’t believe Ace left him after he fell asleep only to come sleep here with Jun, and worse, in each other’s arms.
Before anyone else can respond, Rey abruptly turns and starts walking out the door, but Jun, caught off guard, shouts after him absentmindedly.
"Rey! What now? You came here just to peek through the door and walk away?! I’m telling you this, and I’m very serious about it, if you walk away right now without telling me your fucking problem... then just know we’re fucking over!"
Rey stops in his tracks, not even looking back. For some reasons Jun’s words find him completely off guard.
Ace gets off the couch, still dazed, unsure of what to do.
When Rey finally turns around, slowly closing the door before stepping further into the room, Jun’s heart drums in his chest.
He walks toward Jun, his expression crystal serious, and the next words that leave his mouth shock both of them.
"Are you still in love with Ace?" he asks, his voice low, pained, thick with emotion.
Ace stumbles back at the question. Kieran’s wolf lets out a low growl, and Jun himself is left gaping.
"What kind of bullshit are you talking about right now?! Just because we spent a night together on the couch doesn’t mean the nonsense you’re spewing!" Jun snaps.
He wants to yell at Rey for saying something so ridiculous, but he doesn’t. As if he feels guilty after all.
"Bullshit?" Rey repeats, a pained chuckle escaping his lips. "No, no... sleeping here together, spending the night together, holding each other in your arms_ that’s not the reason, but it’s part of the reason!"
He takes another step closer before he continues, "Everything is always about Ace! Ace this, Ace that! I’ve been ignoring it, thinking maybe you’re just used to him, but it’s alarming now... it’s alarming how we could be making love, and you keep saying his name! Not once, not twice, and definitely not just three times! Every time!
It’s alarming how you didn’t listen to me the other day when we went to find the witch’s cave. I told you it was dangerous to interfere, but all you cared about was destroying their things because they were planning to take Ace away.
You lost control, swearing you’d do anything, anything even if it meant dying, to save Ace!
What did I tell you? How much did I try to stop you? I even went as far as begging you, telling you to think about me, about how I would live without you... but what did you say in return? You don’t care. They wanted to take Ace, and you’d stop them, even if it cost your life.
I had to use Ace himself to bring you back to your senses! I had to make you think about Ace knowing that you died_ just to pull you back!
It’s alarming how every conversation revolves around him, how amazing he is, how much he abandoned you after meeting Kieran!
And there’s more... more that I can’t even bring myself to say because of how much it makes me feel!"
Rey takes a sharp breath before continuing, his voice trembling slightly.
"The other day, Kieran asked me to come see you before coming back to my duties. But then I thought; what’s the point? Why should I go see you when you’re with the one person you really want to be with?
What’s the point of watching you look at him the way I wish you’d look at me?
Because there’s a way you look at him that I want you to look at me."
He meets Jun’s eyes, his pain unmistakable.
"So tell me, Xiao Jun... do you still want to call this bullshit?!"
No one interrupts him.
Because they’re both too stunned to speak.
"This is total bullshit! Total garbage!" That’s all Jun says before he tries to storm out.
But Rey grabs his wrist, pulling him back, not to hurt him, but in a way that looks aggressive.
Ace reacts instinctively, stepping forward. "Let him go, Rey! And stop talking bullshit! You would never understand where we’ve come from and definitely wouldn’t understand the bond we share! We care about each other, and you don’t get to come here and start accusing him of this nonsense!" he yells.
Rey smirks, but even so, pain lingers in his expression.
"Care about each other? That’s all? Huh? You mean like brothers?" He scoffs. "Then tell me, Ace... how deep does that brotherly love go if he says your name in our most intimate moments? Huh? Tell me... do you do the same? Ramble his name in your moments?!"
Ace falls silent. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
Then finally finds his voice again.
"Mistakes can happen," he says firmly. "And you were here. You saw how Jun was pushing for me and Kieran to be together. Why the fuck would he want me with someone else if he really feels about me the way you’re claiming?!"
Rey doesn’t answer.
Instead, he takes out a crumpled piece of paper clearly ripped from Jun’s journal.
He hands it to Ace. "Maybe this will answer your question," he says, his pain deepening.
Ace’s hands tremble as he slowly unfolds the paper. Jun tries to grab it, but Rey doesn’t let him.
Kieran’s mind is still blank. He can’t believe what he’s hearing.
By now, he can’t stand still anymore. He steps forward, snatching the paper from Ace’s hands, unfolding it himself.
He frowns as his eyes scan the words on the crumpled paper. His fingers tighten around it, the paper crinkling under his grip.
~I keep forcing you to get together with Kieran, even if he was a jerk to you, for my own benefit. I think that when you get together with him, then I’ll be assured that really, there will never be anything between us if not just brothers we were meant to be...
I met my mate. I felt like I belonged with him. I loved him. He is funny, nice, loving, and he is someone I want to be with for the rest of my life... but why do I keep feeling like something is missing in my life when you are not around?~
Kieran’s jaw clenches.
His wolf stirs uncomfortably, a low growl vibrating in his chest.
He doesn’t read the words aloud, but the tension in the room thickens as he grips the paper, crumpling it between his fingers.
Ace is restless, his heart pounding, especially when he notices Kieran’s expression shift, the frown deepening, after reading the paper.
Ace’s instincts kick in.
He moves forward, reaching out. "What does it say?" His voice is tight, uncertain. He tries to take the paper from Kieran’s grasp, but Kieran swiftly moves it out of his reach.
"No," Kieran says, his voice cold, final.
Ace’s brows furrow, confusion and frustration flashing in his eyes. "Kieran, let me see it." He reaches again, more determined this time, but Kieran stands his ground, his other hand pushing Ace back slightly.
"You don’t need to read this," Kieran mutters.
He cannot dare let Ace see that, because what if... What if he reads it and starts feeling this for Jun again?
What if he again chooses Jun over him since Kieran himself and Ace are not even mated by the moon goddess yet and therefore, he can choose whoever he wants.
What if he sees Jun like a better person that Kieran himself since all he had ever done since they met was hurt him, while Jun was always there, taking care of him.
What if his feelings for Jun comes back? Or what if they have always been there?!
Kieran’s stomach churns. Something resembling worry kicks in him.
