Chapter 66: Chapter 0066: Don’t Come Any Closer, It Stinks!

The next day!

Inside the dungeon.

"Listen up, all of you! Keep your spirits up! You’re in luck—you’re all being let out."

Lin Fan was in a great mood. Last night’s gains were plentiful, and his mindset had shifted a bit because of it.

"Holy crap! Why is it so stinky in here?"

"Who the hell took a dump in the dungeon? Don’t you have any professional standards? Can’t you hold it in?"

Lin Fan complained loudly as he walked in, only to be met by Wang Baoliu. Baoliu didn’t look so good and seemed exhausted.

"Baoliu, what’s with you? Didn’t go home last night?" Lin Fan asked.

Wang Baoliu replied firmly, "Boss, you gave me such an important task. How could I go home?"

Lin Fan looked puzzled. "What task?"

"Boss, before you left last night, you said they’re being released tomorrow. Since it’s their last night here, we need to leave a lasting impression and beat the crap out of them, literally!" Wang Baoliu said, growing angrier as he spoke.

"But then came the absurd part. I didn’t expect them to hold it in so well. After hours of effort, the task still wasn’t done, so my brothers and I just kept beating them."

"Luckily, we finally got it done in the end."

"Boss, rest assured, I personally inspected each of them to make sure there was no slacking off."

As Lin Fan listened to Baoliu talk, he was completely dazed, dumbfounded, and speechless.

If he absolutely had to express himself...

It would be...

Holy crap! Ruthless!

He genuinely hadn’t expected Baoliu to take his words so seriously. He had said those things offhandedly, entirely forgetting about them, especially since someone had gotten in his way. But who could’ve guessed... they’d actually go through with it to the highest standard?

"Boss, what you said about the smell earlier? You’re absolutely right—if it didn’t stink, it would mean we didn’t do the job properly. And in that case, we’d willingly accept punishment," Wang Baoliu said proudly. Having completed the boss’s orders, he felt useful and capable.

He remembered what his father used to say: if your leader trusts you and you fail to perfectly accomplish the task they’ve given you, then you’ve let them down.

Now, he could proudly thump his chest and confidently tell his father, "Dad, I didn’t disappoint you, and I didn’t let the boss down either."

Lin Fan looked at Baoliu’s expression and couldn’t say anything else. He could only pat him on the shoulder and say, "Baoliu, well done. The boss is impressed; I didn’t misjudge you."

Upon hearing such praise from the boss, Wang Baoliu straightened his posture even more. "Solving the boss’s problems is my duty."

Lin Fan couldn’t say much else and simply said calmly, "Release everyone except Nu Hetian."

"Yes, boss." Baoliu responded and quickly got his brothers to take action.

Despite the unbearable stench in the air, the constables upheld their professionalism—they managed to hold it in.

At that moment, Zhu Hou was disheveled, his hair wild, and his clothes filthy. He screamed wildly, "Lin, mark my words, I won’t let you off for this!"

He was certain that the Serpent Gang had pressured the government, forcing them to release him and the others.

Faced with such a brazen individual...

How could Lin Fan tolerate it?

But alas...

Lin Fan held himself back. Even though he really wanted to kick him, he was genuinely afraid that one kick might cause the guy’s crap to spill out of his pants.

Ji Zhen was acting somewhat crazed. He was a refined gentleman.

To put it bluntly...

Even though he was a steward of the Serpent Gang’s Mountain Opening Hall, he had another identity—six years ago, he was a scholar.

With such a title, it was evident he was a man of learning.

Now, subjected to such treatment, his heart fell into despair. He couldn’t see the path ahead anymore.

Lin Fan approached Nu Hetian and said, "You’re free to leave. Just remember, some things aren’t as simple as they seem. But, I must say, my apologies for beating the crap out of you."

After saying this, Lin Fan kept a safe distance from Nu Hetian, afraid the smell might cling to him.

He knew why crap smelled—it was because air carried microscopic particles of feces. Anyone in a place full of that smell was inadvertently ingesting it.

What a pity...

This sort of high-level knowledge wasn’t common knowledge.

Nu Hetian didn’t want to say a word. He just stared at Lin Fan with blazing fury in his eyes, as if he wanted to devour him whole.

Outside the dungeon.

Yin Ji was waiting with his gang members for the people inside the dungeon. Despite his injuries, he had matters to deal with urgently. Immediately after, he had reported Jiangdu City’s situation to the main headquarters.

He didn’t want to get involved in these issues.

Whether the Boss was colluding with Demons and if there was someone else behind the scenes, Yin Ji didn’t want to know. As long as the Boss was dealt with, he’d avoid meddling in other matters, lest he lose his life.

Soon.

Nu Hetian and the others emerged from the dim dungeon. Seeing the sunlight outside, it was as though they’d become fish placed back into water again. Even though they’d only been locked up for a day, it felt like they’d been in there for a year.

Right then.

Nu Hetian spotted Yin Ji standing in the distance and immediately ran over in excitement.

"Brother Yin..."

"You have to help your little brother get his face back!"

Yin Ji was about to say something, but then he caught a whiff of an overpowering stench. Instantly, he raised a hand. "Stay away! You reek!"

With that, he commanded immediately, "Take him away!"

The gang members who had followed Yin Ji stepped forward at once. But as they got closer, they were hit hard by the smell emanating from Nu Hetian.

Damn!

Why does he stink so badly?

Did he just crawl out of a cesspit?

"Brother Yin, what’s the meaning of this?" Nu Hetian asked in disbelief. He had no idea what was going on.

Yin Ji didn’t feel like explaining much. With so many eyes watching, embarrassing matters shouldn’t be aired in public. "Take him back."

Then, he cupped his hands and said, "Brother Wang, I’ve truly wronged you over these years. As you know, I was demoted here, disheartened and detached from worldly affairs. But who could’ve imagined that the Serpent Gang would end up breaking all the rules like this? From now on, I’ll be taking charge, and I hope we can coexist with the government peacefully."

"Sounds good," Wang Zhou replied.

The Serpent Gang existed throughout the empire, tolerated by the court for specific reasons. However, if they became too unruly and harmed the common people, the court wouldn’t tolerate it for a moment.

Yin Ji didn’t say much else and took his men to leave.

The citizens of Jiangdu City were buzzing.

They saw Nu Hetian and the others looking utterly miserable as they walked down the street. Judging by their condition, things didn’t look good for them.

Plus, the stench in the air was suffocating.

It was far worse than stinky tofu.

Although they didn’t know what had happened, they figured those guys must’ve suffered terribly in the dungeon. Some couldn’t even walk properly anymore!

Outside the dungeon.

Wang Zhou said, "Handle what you need to in the coming days. You’ll be leaving Jiangdu City to participate in the Immortal Sect entrance exam."

"So soon?" Lin Fan was surprised. He wanted to leave, sure, but staying in Jiangdu City had been comfortable. The problem was, his horizons weren’t wide enough here, and he couldn’t see more of the world.

Wang Zhou patted Lin Fan on the shoulder.

"I believe in you—you’re talented. Staying in Jiangdu City would be a waste. The outside world is where you belong."

Lin Fan nodded, saying no more.

Still, he felt a bit reluctant.

Just when he’d finally gathered a group of followers, it was time to part ways. What a bummer.
