Chapter 63 - 63: Convergence Week Starts

After the whole thing with Lorgica, I went home and had dinner with my cute little siblings and wonderful mom. I slept there that night, but once the morning hit, I went straight to work at Akashic Lorgica. The help that Naomi provided couldn't be put into words.

I made her boss over everyone except me, of course. She was a bit rough around the edges at first, but by the end of the first week, she had the reins firmly in hand. From then on, it was smooth sailing. She promoted the people she trusted, the ones she believed actually deserved it, and reshaped a few things to run more efficiently. One big change? She combined the research and development groups into a single department: R&D. That left us with just two core groups. She decided to keep individual department heads for each, saying having two leaders would work out fine as long as they communicated.

When I asked her why she was so sure they would, she just grinned and revealed they were dating. I nodded, pretending to feel relieved, but yeah... that kind of thing can spiral fast. So of course, I quietly made a backup plan—just in case.

The security department? That one got a full overhaul. We brought in 25 new hires for security alone, and another 12 to handle maintenance routines across the departments. I had everyone start using A.I. tools—not for anything too complex, but to automate the boring stuff and save time. I told them to put together a list of what could be delegated once they figured it out, though obviously, that was going to take some time.

Thankfully, I offered extra holiday pay, so about half the staff stayed—including Naomi—to help run the place. They said Christmas was when they could go all out but now they needed money. I laughed, hearing their motivation, but it was completely understandable.

'Whenever I get back, if the work is great, I'll give another bonus!'

"BIG BROTHER!" Euphi's voice rang out like a bell, sharp and high with excitement. Her black ponytail bounced wildly behind her as she ran up to me.

Looking at her with a warm smile, I asked, "Why are you screaming?"

"Because you weren't listening!"

"Oh~ I'm sorry, little princess. This humble one was trying to remember some stuff~!" I bowed my head a little, not seeing her reaction.

"Hehe~ You're excused, servant!" She patted my head, and her childish giggle brought a smile to my face however...

"GUAH?! P-PUT ME DOWN!"

"Nope. You shouldn't walk around the jet when it's about to land." I held her on my lap tightly. Her little face puffed like a squirrel, causing Mom—who sat in front of us—to laugh. Cain was passed out to her right.

Looking to my left and out of the window, I saw it. The city of Dubaie, the capital of Mongai. It looked super futuristic from here so I could only imagine actually walking around.

Skrt! Skrt!

The jet landed with little turbulence. I undid my seatbelt and let go of the little devil princess who stared at me hatefully. It wasn't convincing though since she was holding onto my sleeves. The bags were already handled by Jack a few days before so we didn't really have anything to grab except for Mom's purse.

"HMMM HAAAA~" Taking in the fresh air and the sun's warmth I smiled. This was going to be a wonderful week!

"Okay, let's decide where we're going first!" Mom gathered us in a circle, her sandals crunching lightly on the stone walkway. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, cheeks slightly flushed from the sun, and for a moment, she looked more like an eager child than a grown woman.

"Let's go somewhere fun!" Euphi bounced in place, her ponytail swishing with each motion. I had to suppress my laughter because the way her eyes lit up—full of pure joy—was so damn cute.

Cain wasn't like me though. "Sis, we were already going to do that."

"S-Shut up, Cain!"

Cain shrugged and looked up at me, aquamarine eyes clear but restless, he clearly just wanted to do something already. I mirrored his shrug and made a mental note.

'we needed some brother time, just the two of us.' I just felt like I had to as the older brother.

"Euphi... somewhere fun?" Mom tilted her head, unsure of what exactly counted as fun. As an adult, I'm sure her definition of—

"Let's go buy a bunch of candy!"

"Yay!" Euphi ran toward Mom, who picked up the bundle of joy. She pulled out her phone and started following something on the GPS.

Cain and I quickly followed behind them. We didn't necessarily care about where we went, but um...

'They could have at least asked our opinion!'

[Pfft~, Why would they?]

'Because we are family!' I cried, dragging my sleeve dramatically across my eyes as if wiping away imaginary tears. The sun caught the edge of my vision, and the warmth on my face only added to the theatrical flair of my fake agony.

[Come on, Eiz. You should know who holds the power.]

'Hah~ Tis the truth.' I held one hand against my chest and raised the other to the sky like I was on stage. The subtle breeze rustled my shirt, giving me just the right dramatic billow.

[Why are you speaking like that?]

'I'm practicing acting. Pretty good, right?' I struck a pretend gallant pose, shifting my weight onto one leg. A passing scent of caramelized nuts from a nearby stall almost broke my focus.

[You nailed the mannerisms for sure, but did you forget that you're in public?]

'...' I froze, glancing around. The chatter of people, the soft crunch of sandals on stone, and a nearby child laughing brought me back. I may have gotten a little too comfortable with Ezryn...but fortunately no one saw me!

"Brother, are you okay?"

Looking to my bottom right, Cain was staring at me, worried.

[H-HAHAHAHA~!]

My face turned red, and Ezryn's laughter didn't help at all. I nodded to Cain, rubbed his hair, and covered my embarrassment the best I could.
